3D is the future. People who buy any other version are denying themselves the option to future proof themselves.
Wasn't the 3D coupon $5? I certainly didn't explore the deals, but where I bought mine, I believe the 3D version was $30, and the 2D version was $20.

If they were the exact same price, I'd prefer the 3D version only because it came with the digital copy (which I rarely use). Otherwise, I have no need for a 3D disc laying around my house.

I'd have to question the sanity of someone who buys something they don't need.

The Blu-ray is yet to come out in the UK, but when I saw it at the theatre the 3D was incredible and some of the best I've ever seen. Some of it really worked much better with the 3D effect.

I'll be getting the 3D version when it comes out here, even though I don't own a 3D TV, because I'm looking to future-proof my collection as I'm possibly going to get a new TV within the next few years and that'll probably be a 3D one.

I think it depends on if you're planning to get a 3D TV or not, because if not then don't bother, but if like me you're thinking about it then I say go for the 3D edition.

Do we need movies at all? All we really need is food, water, and oxygen.

3D haters are so obivious to the fact that every arguement they make against 3D can be extended to every form of entairtainment imaginable.

Tough for me to respond to a post that uses the word "hater", but I'll try...

I don't have a 3D TV. It thus makes no sense for me to buy 3D movies. Is it that hard to comprehend?

Now, if the 3D and 2D versions are the same price, I agree that it's silly to not buy the 3D version in my case since it comes with the digital copy.

If it didn't come with a digial copy, and they were the same price, I would be happy with the 2D version.

You caring so much about it is sort of comical.

I don't have a 3DTV either. Id planned to have one by now but have fallan on hard times. Still I make sure to future proof myself whenever I can. Even if it takes me years to own a 3DTV (which I hope it won't) Ill be glad to have a nice collection of 3D movies to enjoy it with

And that's cool and understandable, and I'm sorry about your hard times.

For me though, and only for me, I don't want 3D. I have little kids, am buying less and less movies, don't want to worry about 3D glasses getting broken (like everything else in my house), don't want to wear glasses just to watch movies, and have plenty of other things to spend $$ on besides another new TV.

Now, if they're the same price, then I wish I'd gotten the 3D version so I could have the digital copy. I'm looking at returning mine now if that's the case.

Even after the $5 coupon the 2D version was $10 cheaper so it was a no brainer for me. Besides home 3D in its present form is nothing more than a gimmick and is already slowly dying. Just because the CEMs keep putting the 3D feature in their HDTVs does not mean people are going to use them and odds are that they aren't anyway.

I don't have a 3D TV, and considering that I got my current TV 3 months ago, I don't think I'll be getting a new one anytime soon. However, I bought the 3D version due to the coupon and digital copy. I never actually use the digital copy disc, but have used disneymoviesonline.com at times to watch the movies I have digital copies of. This way, they're not taking up space on my computer, but I can access them from just about anywhere.

It was cheaper for me to get the 3D version.

I agree 100%. I'm not against 3D per se, I just don't like the idea to have to wear glasses to watch a movie. Beside that I think the current technology doesn't allow for anything other than cheap gimmicky effects that don't add much to the experience, at least for me.

The concept of future proof when it comes to technology, especially applied to consumer electronics is a marketing illusion. We can call the current 3D version 1.0, how long will it be before they come up with a "new and improved" version of 3D that will obviously require new hardware?

Went with the combopack. This is my third 3D movie. I have a tv ready for 3D, just waiting on the box that goes with it. Already got the oppo 93 firing up. I don't buy every 3D release, i am definitley going to add more when they drop in price though.

This is simply untrue. The Blu-Ray 3D standard is "display agnostic." This means that the duel video streams can be presented by any 3D system. Whether that system uses active shutters (as most 3D displays now do), polarized glasses like you find in the theatre, or even future glasses free displays. Thats not to say there won't ever be better display technolgies with resolutions far above 1080p but as far as presenting 1080p 3D video the Blu-Ray 3D standard is completely future proof.

I got the 3D version only because I pre-ordered it from amazon with the 8 dollar coupon and with the ;rice drops I ended up getting it for $16.99 for 3D (which I dont have or plan on getting), Blu, DVD, Digital Copy, compared to $19.99 for just the blu and Digital Copy.

I went with the better deal.

And the Blu-Ray 2D standard is just as "future proof" as 3D. So, if someone doesn't care for 3D, has no use for it, and wouldn't even use it if they had it, then it makes sense for them to just get the 2D version of the movie.

I got the 3D. It was the same price as the 2D version after the $5 coupon so why not?

This is probably my favorite 3D disc so far. Absolutely stunning (save for some very, very minor ghosting in spots) transfer that uses it's 3D perfectly.

I was with you up to this point about personal backups and digital copies, but the moment you sell the original movie you lose the right (legal and moral) to keep using your "backup" copy.

To me that's the equivalent of renting a movie and make a copy of it before returning it. I personally think it's wrong.

2D version for me. I have no use for digital copies, and no interest in 3D, today or 10 years from now.

Plus, the case is slimmer, and I am running low on shelf space.
