It has to be formatted in FAT32. Yours most likely is in NTFS.

So after hours of waiting for my passport to format to FAT32, it gave me an error at the end saying it was too large to format. What a waste of time. Anyone know how I can take my 372 gig and format it to FAT32? I don't know much about computers. I know just enough

You need a separate tool from the internet to do it. Windows is a POS. I don't even remember the name of the program I use is anymore, when I get home I can check. For some reason I think "swiss" or "swiss army" is in the name.

I have Windows 7 and I used Fat32 Formatter for my 2tb external. Simple google search should get you there.

I found it a little bit hard to understand at first, but worked great.

Make sure you use FAT32 and not the new xFAT format. I have no idea what the latter is for (I'm guessing Xbox), but Windows 7 can format things to that (but can't read it, either).

I tried to format it to FAT32 by using command prompt but it told me at the end it was too large... so it was kind of a waste.

If your first PS3 saw it, then the drive wasn't NTFS. Did you format it since using it on that old PS3?

yeah i formatted it, it wouldn't format to FAT, so it ended up formatting it to NTFS again.

Ya that's why it worked on the old one but not the new. I recommend nobody uses NTFS for any storage that could be used on something other than your Windows PC. Hopefully Microsoft abandons it (from what I heard that's on the horizon...maybe then they'll stop trying to gimp FAT32).
