Default What is better? Guitar Hero III or Rock Band?

Hi everybody.

I am thinking of buying one of these and looking for your suggestions.

I have 6 years old boy and PS3. I am also a musician, so I will probably play with my kid. What game is better?

Thanks in advance, and

Happy New Year!

Well I think that Guitar Hero is kind of a face off, a battle of the Titans if you wish. Rock band is obviously a team work game, you know, yelling at eachother after a Show, inviting some chicks backstage, Etc...
I hope my nonsense makes sense to you.....

We have both. For straight up guitar, Guitar Hero is better. On the other hand, if singing and drums interest you, Rock Band offers more. You can download a lot of extra songs for RB, I think GH has some downloadable songs as well. My kids like the Guitar Key Strike area on screen more on GH as it is more forgiving. Both are FUN.

Can you be a little more specific about why straight up guitar is better on GH?

I'm considering buying RB, but I don't see myself getting the special edition with all the instruments.

You will get more value out of rock band. I have guitar hero 3 but now i'm thinking of buying rock band. It seems pretty fun and a bunch of my buddies have and LOVE rock band.

Straight up guitar is better on Guitar Hero III because with a (very) few exceptions the Guitar parts on Rock Band are yawn-level repetitious.

If Rock Band was Guitar only it would not be worth it.

rock band is better, but like terjyn said, the guitar on guitar hero is a lot better. i had to open mine up, take a piece of paper, glue it in, so i didn't get double strumming. it works great now though.

Yeah. I should have added that too. Because Rock Band includes singing, drums, and a boatload of fun if you have friends willing to play, I too consider Rock Band a better game.

Just not for pure guitar.

If your able to compare both at the store, you will notict that the indicators on the screen, as when to strum the guitar are larger on GH and more forgiving than the ones on RB. All three of my kids can play the guitar OK too very good on GH where only my two oldest 15 & 13, can play RB good. All of my kids like the guitar feel and response better on GH. ME, I get my butt handed to me on both.

As i write this thow, my wife is singing Metillica iner-sandman, boy on drumbs and daughter on the guitar. They are both great. Mabe GH is just easier.

Rock Band. Come on, its a Harmonix game! Ever played Amplitude? No? then do it...
Screw GH, Screw RB.

But none-the-less... Pick up Rock Band.

Default My wife...

is about as non-videophile/gamer as you get and when the family went on a retreat and Rock Band was there, you might as well have stuck heroine in her veins. Very soon we will be out some $200.00 and she will have every girlfriend and family member she owns over...and don't forget the endless expansion packs...80s/90s here we come.

If you have a social circle, this game is a phenomenon that breaks barriers. I'm not sure why, (as a former HC gamer I see the fun but not to the crazed extent that others do) but its innovation strikes a chord in all age groups and is addictive as hell.

Which would be more deaf-friendly?

I know Guitar Hero III have these gems that explodes so you know you hit the right notes. Deaf people can enjoy it by turning up the bass.
