Default Best Home Theater in a Box

Hello,

I've been looking to getting a Home Theater for a while now, don't even have one

My budget is rather low being only a High Schooler, so I am looking for a theater in a box. The one I had been particularly interested in was the Pioneer HTP-2950DV (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1171057792054)

Any suggestions?

use some old speakers or save up a little more for some new speakers. (Fluance.com)

HTIB is an okay idea...but down the road you will kick yourself. At least with this entry level sony you can utilize the HDMI audio (5.1PCM) and many more inputs/output options for future use...the HTIB you most likely will be limited to Optical for audio (no point even having an HDMI connection if it only does half what its suppose to).

The one you chose is cool, but if you already have a Blu-ray player or PS3 for a little extra cash I would recommend http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....#productdetail

Not a bad choice.... I have a HTIB now and its a Yamaha and I think it sounds great. The rear surrounds are starting to go. Think its the processor as its had hours and hours of use.

Im looking to upgrade to a Denon receiver but HTIB can do the job well for the price !

Samsung HT-TX75.

One of the most fantastic HTiBs I've ever owned, and I've owned plenty.

Something more entry level would be a Philips HTS-3555, but it only has digital coaxial, not optical.

Sony has some very nice wireless ones, check costco.com for the best model.

Well it decodes PCM, it has 3 HDMI imputs, its a 1000 watts and you can actually get it from Sony directly for 399.00 http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665186457

I tend to agree with this suggestion. I know that this system is on the Sony Blu ray display at my local Best Buy's.

Also, the Onkyo system doesn't look half bad as well. Your choice.

The only HTIB worth a lick is the Onkyo SP-908. Has a Onkyo 605 receiver so it can do all the codecs, 7.1 setup, a upconverting DVD player (good for bedrooms), ipod dock and it lets you upconvert ANYTHING to a single HDMI output to your TV so you never need to do more then 1 calibration, ever. I would never suggest any other HTIB, imo. The SP-908 should be good for the next 10+ years.

I'm probably going to lean towards the Onkyo HT-SR800, based on price. Although I would rather have a SP-908 I can't afford that, that's nearly double my budget, unless anyone can find it for a price near the HT-SR800

I agree the Onkyo SP908 is the best but your paying extra $$$ for a dvd player that comes in the package. Most of us dont want a dvd player.....

So the Onkyo HT-SR800 doesn't come with all the features from the Onkyo SR605?

I would buy the SP-900 but its so expensive and Im also a college student on a budget.

Nope, the HT-SR800 has HDMI passthrough, which is 100% WORTHLESS (its just a hdmi switch, doesnt handle ANY HDMI audio). I wouldnt waste my money on it, go with the SP-908 and you will be glad you didnt settle for the crappy setup. Hey, you picked blu-ray, it costs more but you get the good stuff, this is the exact same situation LOL.
