I prefer combo packs over just blu. I purposely haven't bought Ratatouille, after noticing this re-release trend. If there's me, there's hundreds/thousands others, that's enough to make a good chunk of change. Disney just wants everything combo packs. I don't know why this throws everyone to a frenzy all the time.

Combo packs, and slipcovers to make the guys that love them buy the movie again (or finally buy it). Also they're making the covers consistent, which kind of bothers my OCD (thankfully not enough to buy them again) because that's how the new ones will look like.

Simply re-packaged with the new branding/cover art, a dvd tossed in and potentially the DC removed? |

I have all the Pixar titles on BD so I have no desire of picking up the same movie with a DVD included. I honestly have little use for the DVDs included with BDs but I do hold onto the DVDs included with family/kids titles because I am going to get a SUV in the next couple years and it may only come with a DVD player.

Not if you have any understanding of sales and marketing. Especially in a business like BD, which if you look at the sales stats is a hit-driven business. Only the top 10 titles really sell any volume, so it's important to get the attention of retailers to push your titles.
The same thing happens in the publishing industry: publishers will re-issue old classics with new cover art. Why? It gets attention and is perceived as a new publication. Then sometimes, after years of new cover art, they'll come out with an addition restoring the original cover art, which now seems very classy and unique. Also, the first rule of sales is "overcoming objections". Right now, in spite of decreasing player prices and its success so far, there are still millions of people without BD players. Selling combo packs is a way for people to "ease in" to the market. They don't have to invest in DVD-only packages, which they feel will be obsolete, but they don't have to buy a BD player "right now". So they buy the combo package knowing it supports both their current as well as their future equipment. Or it gives them the ability to watch on their BD player as well as their computer or older system in the kids room. Etc. |

However, I can see how it would get annoying to people who weren't interested in the combo packs and were waiting for Finding Nemo. ![]() |

You just hit the nail right there and answer your own question. I suspect a lot of people are more into collecting art covers then movies themselves and so there is the anger many feel about a re-release with a new covert. They just have to get it in their mind. Look at all the crazy stuff about slip covers or steelbooks or digibooks. I suspect quite a many people are more into collecting then interest in the actual movie, watching it is just second to collecting. As oppose to me and others where it's about the movies and and not about the collectibles.
