USA The Eagle - Unrated (2011) - 6/21/11

The Eagle Blu-ray

The Eagle Blu-ray Review

Quote:
Universal has officially announced plans to bring the 2011 Kevin Macdonald directed film “The Eagle” starring Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, and Donald Sutherland to Blu-ray Disc on June 21st. Tech specs for the release include full 1080p Hi-Def video and DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio sound. No bonus materials have yet been announced but we do know (from the cover art) that this will include both the UNRATED and Theatrical Cut of the film as well as a Digital Copy. The title is not available for pre-order over at Amazon but stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated.

Was this a Universal title during theatrical distribution or did they pick it up for home video release? Regardless, I skipped on it in theaters due to the PG13 rating, but I will give the UNRATED cut a rental.

Barely worth a rent, saw it in theaters. But if u like the genre, might as well redbox it. Definitely not purchase worthy

I loved this. I thought it nailed a certain tone--between the stylized absurdity of, say, 300 and the somber super-seriousness of Ridley Scott's recent genre entries (Kingdom of Heaven, Robin Hood). The Eagle has respect for its character and period detail, but also has an appealing and rather old-fashioned swashbuckling quality. Another good film by Kevin Macdonald (Touching the Void, The Last King of Scotland). I had a blast, and I'll definitely buy the Blu.

As for the unrated cut (UNRATED: The Eagle), I'm dubious. I just don't get the feeling tons of gore was shot and cut. (The film played absolutely fine in its PG-13 form, btw. I didn't miss the flying CGI blood at all.) I have a feeling this'll be one of cases where they add a few deleted character moments, but advertise it in the TV spots as a -badass-, -intense- new cut of the film.

Default The Eagle - Pre-Order Up June 21, 2011

Just noticed this in my Gold Box actually. I originally only saw the DVD version, so I guess they just recently confirmed the blu-ray.

Despite not seeing this in theatres, I will blind buy this and pre-order for right now, to lock in my extra couple percent for it being in my gold box deals. Anyone see the movie and enjoy it or hate it?

I saw this in theater. It wasn't that bad. Worth a rental for sure, decide from there if you want to buy it. I won't be.

Just purchased the Best Buy exclusive and it is a flipper disc . Huge fail...what's the point of putting a DVD on the other side of the Blu-ray disc. Really about this garbage! I am going to Best Buy tomorrow and I am getting the regular version. My fault too as it says it right on the cover.

Did the flipper even come with a slipcover?

Can anyone comment on the differences between the PG13 and UNRATED cuts?

The Best Buy Exclusive (flipper) did not come with a slipcover. Not even sure why Uni and BB would team up and release this kind of an exclusive. Why can't they put each format on two different discs??

That annoys me as well. I adore exclusives, you know this. Ever since Best Buy has been selling gimped slipless 'exclusives', I actually skip on the movie altogether.

I decided to keep the flipper as I did not want to go through the trouble of exchanging it. To my suprise, I really enjoyed the movie...much better than I initially believed.

Yes!! Get the regular version. It comes with a nice shiny, embossed slipcover

Traitor! Did you get in on the deal with Adjustment Bureau?

Would you recommend this as a blind buy and worth repeat viewings?

I don't mind flippers but come on. This is 2011. Not 2006 (HD DVD). Uni needs to let go of the past and move on to the future. And yes, I know you love your retail exclusives shin
