Default BBC and Blu-ray?

Anyone know any info about BBC's commitment to either Blu-Ray and/or HD-DVD? I don't get BBC America, so I rely on my BBC DVDs of their television releases. I would love to get Dr. Who, Torchwood and several other BBC shows on Blu-Ray.

I scoured the 'Net, but didn't see any info on it. Can anyone shed some light on this?

They've released Robin hood, and a whole ton of nature type documentaries

Dr. Who is shot Standard def as a cost cutting move unfortunately, Torchwood is HD though

I believe The Tudors is Blu-ray only.

The BBC is format neutral.

As said above, Dr. Who is only shot on SD. The excuse being that it would cost too much and take too much time doing the effects shots in HD. Poor excuse methinks!!!

Torchwood is in HD... there is a new series of this starting on BBC HD on 16 Jan. in the UK.

Hotel Babylon: Series 1, Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky, and Bleak House have also been released, in addition to those named above. Looking over Amazon.co.uk, it looks like only Robin Hood, Planet Earth, Galapagos, and Room With a View are the only ones that are on HD-DVD. So, looks like overall, they're going more towards Blu-Ray than HD-DVD.

As far as I know, all of the BBC shows are region free... but if there's any change, please let me know before I invest!

That is, of course, until I can buy an extra player for another region...

I'm considering on ordering some of these sets this weekend.

Someone knowledgeable should update the 'The Tudors' wiki with the DVD/Blu-ray sets.

I don't think it's recorded in HD, they didn't show the latest series on BBC HD at least.

I would like to pre-order Bleak House on Blu-Ray but I have a Region A PS3. Does anyone know how likely it is that it will be Region Free. The BBC Shop says Region: All.

Can anyone confirm the Region status of other 2-entertain disks that have already been released?

Thank you.

Amazon is not very reliable when it comes to region lock info... best thing to do would be to wait till Bleak House is released and word comes out about its status.

HiDefDigest just announced that Die Fledermaus is going to HD DVD, not Blu-ray, and is a BBC production! Why does HD DVD get all the good operas and art films and Blu-ray gets none of these from BBC???

On page 004 of the first issue of HD REVIEW magazine (a UK publication) there's an ad by the BBC that has Planet Earth, Hotel Babylon, Bleak House, Twenty Thousand Streets, Robin Hood, and Galápagos in both High Def formats and a bbcshop.com address for more info.
