I should have said The Fountain was incredibly boring ..to me. I'm aware we don't always like the same movies. No offense to anyone who enjoyed The Fountain. This movie just wasn't for me.
I'm sure if I listed some of my favorite movies, there would be folks who didn't like them either.
Fortunately, we have a wide variety of movies to choose from.

That is for sure, I know sometimes my friends want to hit me after I force them to sit through some of the movies I enjoy. This might be one of them though many have the same opinion as you on this movie. But so far I have found him an interesting director with Pi and Requiem so I wanted to give this one a chance as well.

I liked Pi, but I can't watch it over and over, you can't really do that with any Aronofsky film, including Requiem (though it is a brilliant film) The Fountain is one of those movies that you watch and either it engulfs you with emotion or it doesn't.

The thing I loved most about it and found so moving was the silence of it. I find beauty in silence, and very, very few films have it anymore, it's all BANG BOOM BAM POW! explosions everywhere. Now I of course love a good action film and love to hear explosions rock the subwoofer, and when it's over I say "Damn that was loud and awesome!" But 2 hours later, I really am not still thinking about it.

The silence of The Fountain puts me into a certain frame of mind that I can only get with specific film experiences, and they are the ones that stay with me long after Jack Sparrow has sailed into the sunset.

Do I need to watch em in order to know what's going on? or is there a best of the series that I can buy and try to enjoy?
Having never read the books, the first time I ever saw Harry Potter, I just didn't get what the big thing was. I disliked it and didn't really find it that enjoyable. As time went on and the Harry Potter hype machine grew, I thought that something must be wrong with me for liking it and I decided to rent it again. Upon the second viewing it instantly became one of my favorite movies of all time! The first time I saw it, I must not have been in a movie mood, but it just didn't click. Second time around all the magic and wonderment hit me full force!!

Maybe you just need to give it a second chance. You defintly need to see them order. Same thing happened to me with the Bourne Supremacy. First time out I just didn't like it, seeing later I loved it. Wierd, I know.

The Fountain...beautiful to watch but a little too esoteric for my taste. And some of it just didn't make sense.

I'm sorry, but I just couldn't get into Blade Runner either. Yes, it's a classic sci-fi picture...yes, it was beautifully restored and an amazing feast for the eyes, but the story was too slow and some of the scenes were drawn out to the point of boredom. It had a hard time keeping my attention.

Chicken Little was just silly and childish. I was expecting something else I guess. Definitely a children's movie. Like Barney.

Crash (the recent one)

Usually I am an "each to his own" kinda guy but I hate that movie so much that it pisses me off how people were wanting to give it academy awards and stuff. A series of racially-charged, ugly confrontations, wow, what fun! It is like a high school film class was told to come up with some serious, hard-hitting social commentary and this is what they came up with. F-.

300

I may change my mind on this one, it could be one of those that I like better after a second viewing, but the first time through it just seemed like a weak action/gorefest flick. *shrug*

Wow, I loved both of those movies... I guess we're polar opposites.

I agree it was a bit too Hollywood and predictable for my taste.
It just lost something from the first one.

I liked Apocalypto, my wife hated it. We watched it together. We normally share similar movie tastes. This just proves not everyone likes the same movies, but that doesn't necessarily mean a movie is bad. Although there are plenty of movies that are universally disliked.

Just the opposite with me.
I really liked 300 the first time I saw it, on DVD. Later I watched it on Blu-Ray...outstanding PQ, but I just didn't care for the movie as much. Not one I'd watch over and over.

Classic.

I've seen it 3 times and have read the book. I love Cormac McCarthy, and I love the Coen's. In fact, all these threads discussing what you'd like to see come to Blu more than anything:

Raising Arizona
O' Brother Where Art Thou?
The Big Lebowski
Fargo
The Hudsucker Proxy
Barton Fink
The Man Who Wasn't There
Millers Crossing
Blood Simple

I'd buy every damn one of them. But I would probably not buy Ladykillers, it just didn't do much for me.

I was right then! haha! We've got similar tastes then. Yeah Ladykillers not so great but not terrible.

No country is great.

Yes excellent film, excellent book, Javier Bardem is the shit in that....****ing ruthless to no end. I love how Josh Brolin is sweeping up roles lately too.....goes back to one of my first favorite films of his....Thrashin'! Oh, and of course, The Goonies.

Another movie I couldn't get into the first time was Miami Vice. I watched the first half hour and was thinking what the hell is going on here? I finally gave it a second chance to the urgings of other people, when it ended, i was just "meh." No need to ever watch that again.

The Fountain is a beautiful film. I've watched it three times on blu. Feels the same every time. Very emotional film.

One I couldn't get into (but, it's not on Blu) is 1408. I watched it, but I'm glad I just rented it. Not a big fan of Cusack (though I'm not sure why ) and I thought the story was mediocre at best.
