Default WB --> Blu-ray = PS3 Surge

Ok, perhaps I'm being a little TOO greedy now. But now that Blu-ray is assured victory in the HDM format war, should the ps3 expect to see a surge?

I dont think so we will have a surge in PS3 sales,still too many did not get it yet.For example i'm going to buy another PS3 but this time a region B playback unless i got from our distributor here in my country a decent player with a reasonable price.

I have both a stand alone and a PS3. If it wasn't for the 5 free instant BD's last week at best buy, I'd have two PS3's. The difference in load times is SICK. Although I love the picture my BDP-S300 produces, I'm just impatient as hell

I wouldn't say a huge spike in PS3 sales as we saw in the last two months of 2007, but I would definitely say that we should expect a more consistent amount being sold each week (i.e. 120K/week at least in the U.S.). I bet many people are even more anxious to get their hands on the PS3 now that more people have them and especially after they see its many features put to use. However, only when the PS3's price reaches $299/$399 will we see the sales really start to pick up I think.

Surge already happened over the Holiday season. And it might have helped trigger the Warner decision. Or was this decision already made a month or so ago ?

If anything, there might be a surge in HD players on "close-out" specials, say one of the "higher end" Toshibas with 1080p and 5.1 analog outputs for $50...

It really is too bad this could not have happened before Xmas (as I stated in a post back in October that it _should_ happen to save consumers the hassles).

PS3 kicked ass this holiday, but it would have probably done near double had this news been at play and Blu-ray set as the next format.

I bet all those asshats that dissed the PS3 for including a Blu-ray player back when it came out are eating a ton of crow right now. Only those of us with a brain and an inkling of forethought could apparently understand what 'future proof' meant.

It won't be instant, but you can bet that this will help PS3 sales in the long run. Not only for purchase insentive, but also will help Sony push the price down more since Blu-ray will end up being the primary HD format for the world.

Most definitely. The PS3 sales will increase dramatically. After hearing the great news about WB going Blu exclusively, I went over to AVS just to read their reactions. Quite a few said they are now planning to buy the PS3 as their BD player. Sony knew something when they included a BD player built in the PS3.

So many people back then argue with me and said that PS3 will be a failure, due to price, Blu-ray format and Cell Processor, there is no way it can beat the Wii and 360. There is NO way Blu-ray can help the system.

Now, 2 years later. Look what just happen today, WB announce Blu exclusive, Blu-ray WILL become the standard format for movies, meaning a LONG life ahead for the PS3 itself. In the world of next gen and high-def gaming experience, the PS3 victory will be assure.

According to Maxpower the decision had been made but the Lionsgate VP's discussion of the "rumor about Warner turning blu" to the media pushed back the announcment date. He had talked about "damage control" shortly after Michael Burns' comments were made.
