Default Angel or Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Which show do you prefer the most Buffy or Angel? I would go with Angel as he was one of my favorite Buffy characters and I'm on season 2 of Angel now after having seen all of Buffy last Summer and I'm enjoying it more then Buffy so far.

First I am going to say I love both. They are my first and second all time favorite shows. Now that that's said, I prefer Buffy quite a bit more. One thing that's really drags down Angel for me in Conner. I hate his character more then I hated anyone in Buffy( though Dawn did bug my a lot). Also Angel is a much darker show overall. While that's not a bad thing and it fits Angel very much I prefer how Buffy handled comedy and drama. IMO it was a perfect balance in Buffy that Angel was not able to recreate.

The one thing Angel has over Buffy though is Wesley. In Buffy he was just incompetent but in Angel he is just plain bad ass and he is my favorite from that show followed by Angel himself.

It's sad to think I will probably never fall in love with a show again like I did with those two. I have many other favorite but even my third favorite X-Files is pretty far behind Buffy and Angel for me.

I sort of agree; I think Angel did recreate the balance, it just could never maintain it for a number of reasons. Angel had some great humor, but it would go for long periods at a time of being super dark and epic to the point of boring at times.

I do love Angel, but I have to go with Buffy.

Angel for me.

If only for Season Four. Which was one of the best story arcs in the Whedonverse.

That's actually one of my least favorite seasons between Buffy and Angel.

It does seem to be the least favorite of most fans. Too dark and too soap opera-ish.

Actually in the middle of re-watching them at the moment. I voted Angel because overall I enjoyed the series more most of the time, however I enjoyed certain episodes of Buffy more than anything in Angel, but for the most part I enjoyed Angel more consistently. Though love them both.

Again like you guys I love both, but Buffy definitely has the edge for me. I agree about the drama/comedy balance, and as well as that there are some outstanding standalone episodes to go with the incredible season arcs, which I don't think Angel ever really matched. You can't really compete with 'Hush' and 'The Body'.

Buffy. I've always thought that Angel was a boring, and stupid show.

Well I do have a pic from Angel as my avatar but it's gotta be Buffy hasn't it? *sings the OMWF soundtrack* but I LOVE Angel. I actually didn't like the character Angel on Buffy. But on his own show he was actually pretty awesome. Cordelia is my favourite character in any TV show ever, always will be. And I loved her growth on Angel...yet hated what they did to her *cries*

Buffy for me. I love both shows, but Angel ended in a cliffhanger which is unforgivable since Whedon and Co. knew that they were being canceled with at least a third of the season to go. I don't mind the whole "the fight against evil never ends" theme of the finale, but they left too many storylines open ended(the Shanshu prophecy for starters).

Angel did have the amazing story arc for Wesley, but Spike's arc on Buffy was almost as impressive. And while I'm one of the fans who really dug the Season 4 storyline(Connor notwithstanding), it's not like Buffy didn't have its share of great season-long arcs as well. Faith was another great character who had her moments on both series, although she was at her best on Angel(Five By Five and Sanctuary have some amazing performances).

Ultimately though, the edge goes to Buffy for one reason above all: Once More With Feeling. One of the finest hours of television ever produced.
