Go with whatever you can get cheaper. Both are great shows.

I have both and would say Band of Brothers is the better of the two, but I would still get both!

I haven't finished The Pacific yet (I'm only 6 episodes in), but judging by what I've seen, BoB is a smarter purchase. The PQ/AQ is perfect and the plot stays a lot smoother than The Pacific.

Honestly, and call me weird here, but I think Band of Brothers starts off REALLY STRONG and continues to be so for the first seven or so episodes. After that, don't get me wrong, it's great, but I think fatigue kind of sets in. By the end of the war the characters are all so worn out and destroyed they lose some of the enjoyment they brought at the beginning. Now obviously... yeah, that's probably pretty accurate. War is gonna rip you apart inside!

The Pacific is more consistent to me. I don't think it starts off nearly as amazing as Band of Brothers does, and maybe, JUST MAYBE, doesn't QUITE reach the same highs as BOB does, but... overall very consistently excellent.

So my recommendation... eh... Band of Brothers, I guess, but they're both amazing and well worth seeing and owning.

Band of Brothers was a much stronger series on pretty much every level so...

If you're only going to get one, get Band of Brothers.

If you're fairly certain you're going to eventually get both get The Pacific first. I didn't really care for The Pacific but it definitely wasn't bad and I do wonder if I might have received it more favorably if I weren't constantly comparing it to BoB in the back of my mind.

BAND OF BROTHERS is the better of the 2. More consistent, better stories. PLUS, unlike "The Pacific" mini-series, here you have the REAL-LIFE characters & other WW II Vets talking before each episode, explaining what happened, what They themselves went thru, the men and Friends they lost. It absolutely rips your heart out hearing the emotion in their voice as they speak.

Like Tom Brokaw said, it was "The Best Generation", for what they did, how they did it, & all they had to go through.

** EDIT: Btw - If you want, I'd suggest looking into buying the Book as well (Note: The Paperback version was released on 9/6/01, just 5 days before 9/11, & tonight we hear that Osama Bin Laden was killed earlier Sunday. **

*** EDIT #2: "Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters" --- Also looks to be a great book by the Main/Lead Character from "Band of Brothers". ***

All that said, when you can, I'd definitely recommend "The Pacific" after.

Both are must-have, no-brainers, but as far as battle sequences and war scenes go, The Pacific dominates with ease.

I agree that both are must haves. In my opinion, The Pacific edges Band of Brothers in both PQ and AQ on my equipment. Last time I checked, you can purchase The Pacific new for under $41.00 on Amazon.

I own both of them.

Band of Brothers can be had for just under $35 ($31.70 + $2.98 Shipping) from a few 3rd Party sellers also.

As for The Pacific, I wouldn't be surprised the AQ & PQ might be better than BoB, as The Pacific "just" came out last year & BoB was made in 2001 (came out on Blu-ray in 2008).

All this talk of both has me wanting to watch Both REAL SOON...

I love The Pacific because it follows the lives of some great Marines...but I still prefer BOB..they are both great mini-series.

Band of Brothers and The Pacific are two very different shows. Oh sure they're cover similar subject matter (Americans in World War 2) and were produced by the same company (Playtone) but they both paint very different portrats of war.

In many ways Band of Brothers highlights the adventure and excitement of war and of the bonds formed between men under great stress in extreme circumstance.

The Pacific is about the very worst of warfare, and how it damages the psyche of those that fight in it. It highlights the plight of the individual and stays very squarely in the 'War is Hell' mentality throughout its run.

Two different halves of the same conflict, and I think both have equal valid things to say on subject. People will tell you BoB is better, I think that's unfair, not that The Pacific is subjectively better then BoB, but because they are two halves of the same whole. I personally think The Pacific gets a bum wrap because it lacks the sense of brotherhood that BoB is all about, and is more about the individual soldier. BoB has the advantage of a centralized group of people, who you stick with throughout the show. Pacific follows three different individuals in thee different units, so it lacks the intimacy of BoB.

My personal recommendation is to watch Band of Brothers first, and then The Pacific, only because that is the order the series were released in.
