Default GTA IV - Video Quality

I just played The Lost and Damned for about 20 min ... the "out of focus" video quality of the game gave me a headache lol ... Im not the type to complain about these things but I think I actually voiced my opinion about this when the game first came out ... Am I the only one who feels that way about the video quality? ... I seriously have no complaints about the video quality of any other game .. some are less detailed, some have more resolution .. but GTA IV game is just so out of focus and lacks sharpness ... I just dont know what they were thinking with this one

I also remember a lot of people praised the video quality when the game came out .. I never understood why .. is the problem that im playing it on a 50" screen? ... Every other game looks amazing (of course newer games tend to look better)

I dont know .. I just wanted to complain and see what everyone else thought :P

I'm currently playing this as well. I think what you're referring to is the "noise filter" that is set to on as default. It gives it the grainy type effect. I turned it off and enjoy the look much more. See if that helps.

Yes! Thanks! I did this and it is good now! .. I actually remember this ended up being the same thing someone told me to do back when GTA IV first came out .. i just forgot about it :P ....

neway, my PS3 YLODed on me shortly after that :P .. however after sitting all night it did turn on this morning, so there is some hope :P

In GTA IV (original) you have a heavy blur in the distance, which makes everything look so soft.

In the Ballad of Gay Tony, this filter is removed so you can much more detail. Unfortunately you also notice in a helicopter how poor the textures are at such a distance though I did find the trade off to be for the better.

Easy Rider, which you may find some in The Lost And Damned, was shot in a 16mm to give it a rough, realistic look, and many of the later media (Sons of Anarchy mainly) use it to give the material a gritty feel to it. It's a stylistic choice I found acceptable. Each part of the game used a different color scheme in order to emit the mood of the character you play as.

I played Episodes from Liberty of City on Xbox 360 (instead of PS3), which I used a VGA cable, I have noticed te grain, but the VGA cable (due to length of cable) didn't show much of the grain, more washed out look to it. I never found the grain intrusive at all, everything looked fine, and creates the mood to the image. It was nice to see a cleaner in image in The Ballad of Gay Tony though. I wished I played it on HDMI however.

I normally appreciate the grain in movies, and I own sons of anarchy on blu-ray, it actually looks pretty clean to me. The main problem with GTA IV was that the video was giving me a headache.

Hey i've got a question about that; i've asked it in another thread but nobody answered lol. Anyways, i've had the YLOD twice now and i was thinking of doing a system back up. Would this also back up my game data and non-copyable game saves or no?

The best thing would be to buy the 2nd PS3 (or if you already have it) and do the data transfer from your current to the new PS3. That way every game save is transfered and playable on the new machine. 2nd option is to do a backup to an external device, but you may have a problem with some game saves that are specific to the PS3 they were made on.

Ah i see, thanks a lot! Yeah, i'll definitely get a second PS3, i know mine will die again in the future. Hopefully by the time we get our 30 days of PS+ free, so then i can do the cloud saves for the non-copyable game saves.
