Default Now that WB is Blu-ray exclusive... when will we see LOSSLESS audio and hi-bit video?

maybe we'll have to wait until they've stopped releasing companion HD DVDs with their DVD/BD releases in May. But this is serious folks: lossy audio doesn't belong on any 'high definition' format... it's compromised, and it's LESS than we got with laserdisc in 1990.

So any idea if the boys at WB "get" the idea of more transparent mastering and, especially, lossless audio presentation?

I don't want to buy Blu-ray Discs from WB with 640 kbps Dolby Digital. Do right by Blu-ray Disc and your fans WB: Lossless audio on EVERY title.

I strongly agree. I guess we'll get HD DVD crippled video encodes from Warner until May. But they should be able to start including PCM on every BD they release immediately. There is no cost disadvantage for that. I wonder if Warner will re-encode certain titles in the future for BD. Batman Begins would be nice.

Its probably the reason why they pushed back "The Invasion" and were not releasing any more films until after late Jan.

I would say after the HD-DVD cut-off date, but that's just a guess, it's a good way to cut costs.

As a sidenote though Re lossless Audio, they're started to add PCM tracks.

Only on a few titles by no means all of them like both Fox, Sony, and Disney do.

Hopefully soon David. It is sad seeing 100% lossless from Disney, Sony, Fox and then 27% from Warner Brothers. I'm hoping we also get new encodes for Batman Begins and the Matrix Trilogy before they are released. That would make the wait worth it.

I couldn't agree more. Can you imagine how amazing a Blu-ray optimised Blade Runner encode would be?

Warner for the most part took special care on big release titles. I know they tweaked their video encodes by hand for the bigger titles, so I don't expect a lot of improvement from their headline titles. The bigger improvement will come on catalog titles where no special attention was given. I hope we eventually get BD optimized discs on all titles they have done.

This is the next front we have to win guys. Not today... but in the coming months we need to put pressure on WB to provide lossless audio on ALL blu-ray disc releases... not just the pitiful handful of "a-list" titles their marketing team deems worthy.
