Did anyone get the disc pictured on the back cover? I just got the same old MGM disc with the 2006 copyright.

You can check the 2006 version of the movie, if that's locked then this will be locked too, it's the same disc

I never said it was locked I said it's the same disc as the 2006 version, if you found out that was locked or free then the digibook would be the same.
I'll check the digibook on my region B player when I get home.

The original The Terminator and the re-release (lenticular slipcase) are labelled as "A" but it is AB to my testing. I thought it was well known in fact because there's a lot of fans obviously and it got people importing before they normally would have (as it's a rare release world-wide).

That's similar to the lenticular release -which I like. Thanks to DVDEmpire for the image http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_ite...tem_id=1569836

Why? Because people keep buying it!? What's wrong with the "old disc" anyway?

The audio has been edited and the video codec used is MPEG-2 instead of AVC or VC-1. I'd welcome a new release with the original audio and a AVC encode.

Outdated codec? Single-layer disc? Print damage? Weak contrast? DNR? No original audio?

Plenty wrong with the old disc. But so long as people will buy it not once, but any time the distributor decides to drop it into a shiny new package, it's unlikely that we'll ever get a new disc with a better transfer or original audio track.

I picked it up for five bucks as part of Warners DVD2blu promotion and ten minutes in and I honestly felt like I got overcharged.

I'm pretty flexible with regard to transfers and I knew going in it had problems but man it was disappointing.

Well, Van Ling (the guy who produced most of Cameron's Special Edition Laserdisc and DVD editions) said that the production on a completely new version was stopped a while ago. I don't know whether that means the re-scanning and remastering was already completed. And it doesn't mean that some other team might be working on it.

That seems a bit hyperbolic. I think I paid about $10 for it, and I enjoyed it. I grew to love this movie from a Beta or VHS I taped off a cable channel in the 80s, and the BD far outshines it. Could it be better? Possibly, but we know it was a low-budget production. Would I like to have the original audio included? You bet. But, I think it was worth what I paid for it.
