Q: I no longer have the option to choose my free Welcome Back games. What can I do?
A: If you navigate away from the Welcome Back section of the store without choosing your free games or exit the store completely you may need to follow the below in order to choose and download your free games.

1. On your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable navigate to the PlayStation Network icon on the XMB
2. Log into your PlayStation Network account and choose Account Management > Transaction Management > Services List
3. Choose “PlayStation Network Promotions” from the list of services displayed
4. Select either “PS3 Free Games” or “PSP Free Games” and then choose “Select Content”

You will be taken to the store to choose your remaining free games.

Changing Your PlayStation Network Account Password

Find out how to change your PlayStation Network account password following system software update 3.61.

1. Select [Sign In] under PlayStation®Network on the XMB (XrossMediaBar) Menu.

2. Enter your sign-in ID (email address) and password, and then select [Sign In].



Enter the current sign-in ID (email address) and password for your PlayStation Network account, and ensure that you can receive messages at this email address.

3. Select [OK] from the screen that prompts you to change your password.



A screen for entering a new password is displayed.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to change your password.

After you have changed your password, you will be able to sign in to PlayStation Network.

• If the screen for entering a new password is not displayed after step 3, your PlayStation 3 system has never been activated on PlayStation Network using your account. In this case, an email message will be sent to your registered email address. Follow the instructions in the email message to access a website and change your password.

If you have forgotten your password

If you have forgotten your password, you will need to change it from the PlayStation Network website. Follow the instructions shown below.

1. Select [Sign In] under PlayStation®Network on the XMB Menu.

2. Select [Forgot your password?] on the sign-in screen.



3. Enter your sign-in ID (email address) and your date of birth, and then select [Continue].



Ensure that you can receive messages at this email address.

4. Check that your email address is correct, and then select [Confirm].



An email message will be sent to your registered email address. Follow the instructions in the email message to change your password. When you have changed your password, you will be able to sign in to PlayStation Network.

• If the PlayStation Network account you are using is a sub account, it may be necessary to first sign in using the master account to change the password.

The phased restoration will include the return of nearly all of SOE's portfolio of online games, the reinstatement of SOE's game forums and websites, and added functionality to require players to reset their passwords.

Increased Security Measures

As the result of a criminal cyber-attack on the company's network, SOE shut down its game services in order for the company to undertake an investigation and incorporate rigorous enhancements to the overall security of the network infrastructure. SOE worked with several outside respected security firms during the course of implementing significant security measures that strengthen safeguards against unauthorized activity and provide customers with greater protection of their personal information.

SOE made enhancements to overall data security as well, including updating and adding advanced security technologies, additional software monitoring, performing new penetration and vulnerability testing, and increased levels of encryption.

"Our main priority is the safety and security of our customers' personal information," said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. "We are making consumer data protection a full-time, company-wide commitment, and have applied enhanced security technologies so that our customers can feel protected and confident about playing our games."

Hirai added, "We are committed to delivering secure and entertaining games for players of all ages and thank each of our players for their patience and support during this difficult time."

SOE will also be offering its customers a "Welcome Back" program that includes special game content and services to all registered Station Account holders. As part of this program, players will receive 30 days of additional game time plus one day for each day SOE's services were down. We have been working on a new PS3 system software update that requires all PSN users to change their password once PlayStation Network is restored. The update (v3.61) is mandatory and is available now.

If using a PS3, your password can only be changed on your own PS3 (or a PS3 on which your PSN account was activated), as an added layer of security. If you have never downloaded any content using your account on the system, an email will be sent to the registered sign-in ID (email address) associated with your account when you first attempt to sign-in to PSN. This e-mail will contain a link that will enable you to change your password. In this email, click on the link and follow the instructions to change your password. Once you have changed your password you can sign-in to your account using your new password.

We strongly recommend that all PSN account holders with PS3s update their systems to prepare for when PlayStation Network is back online. The release of this update is a critical step as we work to make PlayStation Network significantly more secure. Thank you for your continued support and patience.

An error occurred during download operation. A conection to the server cannot be established (80710723)

PSN is not back online yet. This is a big step though and it should be back online pretty soon now.

I think you'll be prompted for a password change when the PSN is officially up & running. I believe this firmware is just the preemptive strike before the onslaught of the PSN rebirth!
