Default Cable box via analog

Tried to hook up my cable box using the red and white rca cables and couldn't get any sound. Wanting to be able to listen via zone 2. Coming out of cable box and in to receiver. Any help?

Are you trying this in addition to HDMI or other outputs from your cable box?

I've tried with and without. I tried to use component for video and stereo rca cables for audio. Video worked but no audio. I then tried hdmi with rca cables in another input to use with zone 2 but that didn't work either. The hdmi did work though.

Try to identify the problem device:

If you plug the cables into the TV directly, do you get sound?
If you plug another device into the AVR's analog input, do you get sound?

I'll try both and let you know how it goes.

My buddy has a dvr box from time warner that wont output to all of the outputs unless they are hooked up when the device is first powered on, like from a hard reset. Strangest thing i have ever seen.

your box may not output digital and analog at the same time. Try just zone 2 analog with no zone 1 plugged in at all and see if you can get sound.

Have you determined which device is causing the problem?

you may need to change the internal settings on the cable box. Some boxes make you select how the audio will be outputted, this may be a problem though as you might not be able to use multiple outputs.

I haven't had a chance to check anything yet. Hopefully by the weekend.

I did glance through the menu and didn't see anything like that.

Have you tried a hard reset with all of them hooked up yet?

I'm not sure what I've done, which is nothing, but it now works. Via HDMI in main zone and analog in zone 2. Thanks for all the advice but I'm not sure what I was doing wrong I just tried it again tonight and it worked.

The same thing has happened to me recently, where something Ive done 5 times before worked but didnt, then somehow the next time it did. What I do now is write down that I did nothing. (for reference) of course. Then if it happens again I can go back to it. Glad you got it going bro
