I've tried with and without. I tried to use component for video and stereo rca cables for audio. Video worked but no audio. I then tried hdmi with rca cables in another input to use with zone 2 but that didn't work either. The hdmi did work though.

Try to identify the problem device:
If you plug the cables into the TV directly, do you get sound? If you plug another device into the AVR's analog input, do you get sound? |

you may need to change the internal settings on the cable box. Some boxes make you select how the audio will be outputted, this may be a problem though as you might not be able to use multiple outputs.
