What worries me about Pecker is that he's supposidly a teacher, if he as delusional about this format war in the company of adults it scares me what he's teaching impressionable young kids that don't know any better.

There are people on AVF that have listened to the advice they were given by people like Pecker and now blame AVF for wasting hundreds of pounds on a dead format. It's sad an I feel for them, but some people only listen to what they want to hear. They wanted HD-DVD to succeed because it was cheap and they got 10 free movies, but my arguement all along was to look ahead, where was the format war heading?

I wonder how many people Pecker convinced to go HD-DVD, how many friends and family members did he convince? Hows he going to look them in them in the eye and say oops, you've just wasted £200-300 on a brick.

I doubt anybody was convinced by Peckers postings, it was so obviously rabid garbage that anyone with a brain would have bought Blu-ray instead. The real problem at AVF was the mods and others who encouraged the 'Dual Format' idea as a sensible option, with the idea that HD-DVD was the best first HD purchase. Because it was 'cheap'.

Deleting and banning anyone who disagreed with this policy effectively meant that they were propagating the myth that HD-DVD had any chance of success. It never did, it was impossible for it to win from the beginning and anyone who claimed otherwise was lying.

Just another example of the lunatic rantings of the HD DVD fanboys. This one came from the feedback page on DVD Times website:

Quote:
I really do not think HD films will catch on with Joe Public. I really do think it will be a more successful version of Laserdisc. The format after Blu-ray will become the successor to DVD in my opinion.
So, HD will not catch on as long as it's Blu-ray. But, some unknown format that comes after Blu-ray will succeed? Obviously that new format won't be HD as "I really do not think HD films will catch on with Joe Public".

I am soooo glad that the HD DVD fanboys lost. They have to be the most annoying, deluded things on the face of the Earth.

Have to agree with that - the mods are just as responsible as the likes of Pecker. Now I know they secretly and randomly ban, delete and modify messages to propagate their own agenda I dont see how anyone could take the site seriously.

Its a shame because it was always better than thedvdforums (which is just run by megalomaniac morons IMO) but you have to wonder if any advice you take from their has been manipulated in some way.

Are there ANY decent AV / film forums out there??? (apart from this one of course ).

Toshiba stand to lose as much as anyone - probably more - if HD DVD goes belly up. So what can they do now?

This one's easy. Put out a press release saying that, even if they start making Blu-ray Disc players, they will ensure that all have HD DVD capability, or that there'll always be at least one Toshiba BD player available which will be able to play BDs.

This immediately helps Universal & Paramount. People can carry on buying The Kingdom and Zodiac without any fear of being left with a pile of discs they need to replace if their current machine expires.

This in turn helps Toshiba. It helps keep HD DVD going for the next year, which will be vital in making HD DVD cheap enough so that it can survive on board other players.

Steve W
WHY?

why should blu ray carry the can for what was a poor crappy format that didnt catch on.

let toshiba make dual players for exsisting media while paramount and universal release to BD.

Simple, problem solved market united.

did the market support laser disc, did the market support dvix or betamax. NO. they moved on.

Hey guys! Another Brit joining the team, I've been having a look at the HD forums on AV and they are absolutely apalling, real shame that some people take on their advice.

Quick question: What are the chances Disney are going to announce Lost Season 3 for the us here in the UK at CES? I'm dying to get my hands on it before season 4 begins but that is seeming more and more unlikely.
