im just wondering if the US version is region B formatted as well as A or region free ...?

Renaissance has not been released in the U.S. It has been released in Canada, but it is region A locked. It has also been released in France, but it does not have the an English audio track or English subtitles.

The one user review doesn't seem to talk much about that.

Your only option would be the Canadian release as the French release has neither.

There's a double feature Blu-ray of Equilibrium and Renaissance by Alliance. Equilibrium is still 1.78:1 since that's their master.

but im guessing thats still region locked ? i thought Equilibrium was but when i got it - bam locked .

That's correct. All of Alliance's releases are region A locked.
