Question The Magnificent Seven - Faulty Blu-ray

Couldn't find a thread about this, but I've heard that MGM's Blu-ray of The Magnificent Seven suffer a lip-synching problem.

Has this been fixed?

I had my copy's lip syncing mess up on me pretty bad, I believe right when they returned to the village with the gunfighters; it was so bad I was thinking to myself "wait, was this filmed in another language and then dubbed?" It wasn't persistent enough through the entire movie for me to notice it, but that scene jumped out at me.

This is on a copy I purchased a couple of weeks ago, mind you.

Are you referring to the individual release or the set that has the sequels as well?

If you're worried about lip synching, you might as well forget The Good, The Bad and the Ugly and some other classic Westerns.

I watched The Magnificent Seven and didn't notice anything bad.

These movies almost all have to be "looped" back at the studio. When recording outdoors on location the microphones sometimes pick up bird noises, or airplanes, or just aren't loud enough. And so back at the studio the actors often dub their own voices while looking at the moving pictures of themselves. Well done this can be almost perfect, but sometimes it's hard to get it exactly right.

Bottom line: The Magnificent Seven is a truly magnificent Western with an amazing cast, great music, and the synch issues which if there at all are small and relate to what I wrote just above. In other words, it's what was seen and heard in the original theatrical release. The PQ and AQ are great for a release of this date. Buy with confidence! Great film.

Is the problem on every one of the Blu-Ray copies that is a TARGET exclusive, or only some copies. This week Target is having a sale on the Blu-Ray for only $7.99 and it a only in store thing. It not sold on their site at any price. I sure don't want a good movie where they might of use a bad print out so many for the Blu-Ray at Target.

Is the sync issue on both English tracks or just the default one?

which version of the movie are you talking about? The new one from last year? The Set with all the old movies in it?

This refers to the original release of the 1960 film.

I just saw this in the movie theater here in Arizona at Harkins for Tuesday Night Classics, and would you believe, the lip sync issue reared it's ugly head!

Looks like this issue is inherent in the transfer if even the theatrical DCP is affected. This really needs to be fixed. One of the greatest westerns ever created deserves more respect than this.
