Default CES 2008: Samsung BD-P1500

Fourth-gen player, full decoding of all advanced audio codecs, Profile 1.1.

Coming in May, SRP $399.

There's also a combo player, apparently, for those who care.

It's says bitstream of said audio codecs and not decoding. For $399.99, I wouldn't be surprised that it doesn't internally decode them.

Exact wording:

Quote:
Coming this May, the BD-P1500 will support 1080p playback (not to mention 720p / 1080i / 1080p DVD upconversion), 7.1 PCM, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD HR and MA, Bitstream audio output via HDMI, HDMI 1.3 with CEC and the obligatory Profile 1.1.
Bitstream option is listed after the advanced audio codecs, so it's most likely an option for those who want to do the decoding externally.

I agree that it is ambiguous...

And also the price point makes it unlikely to have internal decoding...

It is ambiguous, but the 1500 is coming in May, and for just a hundred bucks lower SRP than the Panny 30, which simply bitstreams the advanced codecs.

I'm still cautiously optimistic, as that is a six-month difference, and could indicate the new chipset.

We'll see.

In order to become more appealing to consumers, Samsung needs to do a better job at releasing firmware updates for their players in the future. They're one of the slowest to release these updates and this has angered many current owners of their Blu-ray players.

Agreed. This is why I still prefer the new Panny, even though it's probably going to be pricier.

Nice to see that Samsung's focus is on manufacturing new BD players before fixing the ones they've already produced. Jackasses

Well at least everyone BUT SONY annonced new players for 2008

Isn,t that Funny that Sony, the BluRay leader, didn't announced any P1.1 or 2.0 player at it's press conference while they others all did..

Just remember that CES officially starts tomorrow. Maybe Sony doesn't want to jump the gun with any pre-show announcements.
