USA Muppets Movies on Blu-ray - Aug.16, 2011

Muppets from Space Blu-ray

Muppets from Space Blu-ray Review

The Muppets Take Manhattan Blu-ray

The Muppets Take Manhattan Blu-ray Review

FINALLY some Muppets are coming to blu ray. No doubt because of the upcoming Muppet movie being released in November, Sony has announced the Muppets from Space Blu-ray and The Muppets Take Manhattan Blu-ray for Aug.16

I'm hoping we will get the others announced soon. I just want the original 3 for sure (Muppet Movie, Great Muppet Caper and Muppets Take Manhattan) and Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island would be nice too. I'd LOVE some nice box set packaging for these...a "fozzie" I mean fuzzy felt covered box with all sorts of Muppet trinkets and memorabilia inside....who wouldn't want a mini Camilla chicken? Haha.

Specs:

Muppets From Space will contain the following special features.
Outtakes
I Hate Rats! feature
Music Video: "Shining Star" by The Dust Brothers Featuring Jeymes

The Muppets Take Manhattan will include these special features.
Jim Henson Interview
Muppetisims: Fozzie Bear
Muppetisms: Miss Piggy & Kermit the Frog
Muppetisms: Pepe

I would love the Muppet Christmas Carol - some great songs on there and Michael Caine is just great as Scrouge.

+1. Michael Caine as Scrooge and Tim Curry as Long John Silver = Awesome! They just played it for real in their respective films, which made it work so well with the Muppets. And they're truly great actors too.

IIRC, these are the only two Muppet movies Sony still retains the rights to, right?

Really happy we are getting Muppet movies on Blu-ray and hopefully we get more if these 2 sell well.

Disney currently owns the rights to The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, The Muppet Christmas Carol, and Muppet Treasure Island, so it's their call when they want to release those. I'm happy that Sony has decided to release the other 2 though. :-)

I'm in for Take Manhattan. Hopefully Sony will put up the cash for some Special Features (Frank Oz commentary?)

I can't imagine that Disney wouldn't be already prepping their Muppets films for release, after all those will be a tie-in for their movie.

Well, the only two I saw on a regular basis growing up were "Christmas Carol" and "Treasure Island", so those are the ones I'm eager for, with regards to a Blu-Ray release.

More excited for Muppets Take Manhattan than Muppets from Space. But, what I really want is for Disney to release the Muppet Movie and Great Muppet Caper. Nonetheless, it's nice to see Sony doing their part, as I'd like to have all the films eventually.

Great news! This just made my day. I'll get them both (Space is MEH, but I'm a Muppet fan, so fine...), but Muppets Take Manhattan was a childhood favorite. Day one for me!

Now it's your turn Disney - get those originals remastered to coincide with the new movie this Thanksgiving!

Well, that's a switch:
Sony doing the valuable tie-in promotion that Disney SHOULD have been doing on their own by now.

Bill Hunt just posted this over at the Digital Bits regarding the Disney-held Muppet films:

"Word is the Disney-held Muppet catalog films MAY arrive on Blu-ray for the holidays."

Nothing definitive but I'd love to be able to get those for my nephew in time for Christmas.

It'll be a big seller for Disney if they release them either right before or right after the movie hit theatres.

Muppet movie and caper are my 2 faves so I hope Bill is right that they may indeed be on the way as well.

I pre-ordered Muppets Take Manhattan. At 13.99, you can't go wrong.
