Picked up a copy today, and hope to view it tomorrow and give those interested an idea of what to expect as far as how it looks. I will compare it to Once Upon A Time In The West and see how it measures up. Should be interesting. I paid 28.00 up here but I also realize that small companies like Olive Films do not have the resources like say Sony Pictures - I only hope it looks good because I would like to support their efforts where possible. The fact is if it were not for them it would not have made it to dvd most likely, never mind blu ray.

The pre-order dropped to $20.99 at Amazon and that's the best price I've found, but in comparison to recent catalog release pricing, that's still too pricey for me.

Well, I broke down and paid $17.26 + $1.98 shipping at Blowitoutahere.com, lowest price I found. Yeah, weird name but I've bought from them on Amazon Marketplace & eBay before and their shipping was pretty fast; first time buying direct from their site & prices are lower than Amazon Marketplace. Amazon raised their price back up to $24.49 and with the DVD still at $20.99 I don't see the price dropping much, the only way to get it cheaper is a Borders or B&N 50% off sale.

Got my copy and watched it last night. Very nice video quality, LPCM Mono audio was clear enough if a little underwhelming, it sounded better when I set my receiver to spread it out multi channel. Interesting to see the actor I'll always think of Commander McHale (Ernest Borgnine) play a bad guy, he was good at it. For anyone in Region B land interested in it I updated the database confirming region B playback.

Be interested to hear what the English sound mix is like - Olive really screwed it up on their version, with music and effects incredibly loud and dialogue incredibly soft, as well as getting a weird overlap in one scene.

I was playing with volume on my remote like it was a video game controller. I'd listen to the music and effects on "12" and as soon as somebody started to talk I'd turn the volume up to "28". The disc has possibly the worst dialogue/effects balance of any of my 850 BDs. I'm surprised this issue got very little mention in most reviews. |
