Jeremy here live from E3. Last night at our press conference in LA, we revealed Medieval Moves: Deadmund’s Quest, a brand new game title for PlayStation Move from Zindagi Games and San Diego Studio, the same team that brought you the best selling Move title, Sports Champions. So you know you can expect best in breed motion controls with an emphasis on fun gameplay. Medieval Moves is the first action adventure game that uses a unique set of motion controls to seamlessly transition between throwing stars, sword fighting and archery for an intuitive and immersive gameplay experience.

The story behind Medieval Moves involves the evil Sorcerer Morgrimm who has invaded Prince Edmund’s Castle and plots to take over the kingdom, raising an army of skeletons from beyond. While trying to stop Morgrimm, our hero, Prince Edmund is also turned into a skeleton! Now named “Deadmund”, he must fight to save his homeland and defeat Morgrimm and his minions to restore order to the kingdom.

You control your character’s actions with the Move controller with a slash of the sword, shooting an arrow, or flinging throwing stars and much more. There is no cumbersome inventory system or weapon selection screen, you do the action and it just works. For example with an enemy in your face, the sword and shield are perfect. Swing your arms to swing the sword and hold the Move button to position your shield. If you see a distant enemy, reach back for an arrow from your quiver for pinpoint accuracy. Sometimes quantity counts, so grab a throwing star or three with the T button and let them fly as fast as you can throw.

This is only the start, there is so much more to be found in Medieval Moves! This Fall you will be able to face off against a relentless army of skeletons and experience an all new action adventure with your PlayStation Move! Stay tuned for more information in the weeks and months ahead.

Looks so much nicer than Sports Champions, something you can actually fall in love with.

IMO, it didn't look too great when they showed it off. I want Sorcery, damn it!

Yeah. Looked like a wacky cross of Archery, Gladiator, and Disc Golf from Sports Champions.

Without the ugly style, and formed into a flowing adventure instead of minigames.

This looked kinda meh to me. I would love to see a more grown up midevil era RPG. Something from the DnD universe would be swanky. I also didnt like that you dont control movement.

I loved the premise, but not the cartoony execution.

Where's the lightsaber game? I was hoping the Kinect one would be adapted from the Move...

Where IS Sorcery, anyway?

Game has potential, but it looked like crap on the E3 demo. Even my GF commented about it being boring and playing badly and not looking too exciting, and she isnt a big gamer lol.

Core gamers still enjoy lightgun games, right? Here you have more control than a typical LG game, it's more like Killer 7. I think on-rails games have a negative stigma at the moment because Kinect on-rails games have no reliance on skill, depth and accuracy in the parts you DO control. I don't think that's a fair criticism here relative to the on-rails games people enjoy.

A couple of criticisms I have from the little shown so far are the puff-explosions on defeated skeletons hide a potentially satisfying ragdoll physics reaction to the hit, and there's more latency in the 1:1 sword swinging than Sports Champions so hopefully they can bring that right down, assuming it's not just picture processing on the TV's they took the demo round to.

Please no. That was the worst game showed at E3 this year.

As for Medieval Moves, while it's got some more style than the nauseatingly vanilla Sports Champions, that's not the same thing as saying it doesn't still look like a tech demo.

Sony really needs to go back to the drawing board for this title. I have no idea who it's targeted for. The cutesy art style clashes with the dark tone.

Also: On-rails is fail.

If Sony make it controllable with a NavCon, then I will be interested, but if it releases on rails then I'm definitely not going to bother. It ruins the concept completely, for me at least.

They should at least make full control an option, I can understand they are targeting casuals who might not be fully adept at full control, but it locks out so many regular gamers who bought into Move on the idea that it would serve core gaming as well as casual. :/

Medieval Moves preview: Sporty skeleton
Quote:
One of my biggest surprises during PAX Prime 2011 was a game I almost decided not to play.

Time is limited at these events, so when I was presented with a swath of choices at Sony's corner of the show at the nearby Grand Hyatt, I had to be shrewd. Starhawk? Sure! Journey! You bet. Medieval Moves: Deadmund's Quest? Ehh ...

Boy, am I glad I took a chance on this one, because slashing, guarding and shooting as the diminutive skeleton was some of the most fun I had all weekend.
If there was a themed, online version of Sports Champions Table Tennis in this, say hitting glassy eyeballs across a stone slab with skull paddles, I'd be 100% sold.

Neither boxart's great but the North American one's skeletons match the textured in-game art. Europe gets nasty smoothies!

It's £16 on Amazon.

Apart from some calibration issues after swinging the sword really hard, which for some reason didn't happen the second time through, I enjoyed the demo.

First of all you pick off as many enemies as possible from a distance using the bow, then switch to sword/shield for closeup fighting. I prefer the single Move controller setup for bow shooting and you can't control the sword and shield simultaneously with two controllers so there's no advantage using two.

After shutting the trapdoor by shooting the rope, there's an alternative route outside the tower if you shoot the explosive barrels to the left of the normal hookshot route. The normal route has you balancing across beams while the the outside route introduces a new flying enemy and I think this path's more difficult. Hopefully there's a difficulty select in the full game or the difficulty ramps up because I didn't need the milk refills much.

It's hard to tell how the rest of the game might mix things up but what's there in the demo has the same satisfying feeling of control as Sports Champions. Stylistically it reminds me of Voodoo Vince with crisp textures and chunky geometry, the depth of field and lighting mix really nicely.

This is the final SCEE box art. They really want people to know it's a Move-REQUIRED game.

That is interesting. Wonder if there have been CSR issues with people buying games like Sport Champions or the like and wonder why their DS3/SIXAXIS isn't doing it?

Does this game support multiple move controllers and/or the Nav controller?

Seems like there hasn't been that much stuff for Move recently. About to give up hope on a Jedi/lightsaber game.
