Angry Packaging from Amazon UK

Hi guys,

Received my eagerly-anticipated Apocalypse Now BD in the post today (from 'Indigo Starfish' to find it in a white jiffy bag - needless to say upon opening this lovely set was dented at the bottom corner.

Applied for a return and refund and have just ordered from HMV.

Are HMV better? And has anyone had similar experiences?

HMV's packaging is much sturdier than the Jiffy bags that Indigo Starfish and Play (sometimes) use.

HMV use cardboard boxes, which offer better protection, but can still result in the odd battered corner,(very rare, but members here have had it happen). They will however replace damaged packaging, should you contact them.

Good to hear! Thanks for the information.

That's reassuring - you should see the packaging my discs came in. Hugely out of proportion so the bluray could slide about in it - it's a wonder it wasn't more damaged than it is. Going straight back.

Really? Nice. I haven't bought from them for a while so thanks for that tip.

Most of the time, the packaging comes in fine for me, whether it be from Amazon, Play or HMV. There have been a few odd instances with the ol' battered corner, but still, it's been alright.

Am I mad for wanting to send it back with a battered corner?

No, Not at all. I think we're all a little OCD about how our lovely and expensive collections look. If I've got something that's battered, Ripped or dented it bothers the **** out of me.

Absolutely, we shouldn't have to put up with stuff arriving in less than mint condition.

No, you are very much right to send it back for a dinted corner, if you were buying from a store shelf and there 2 to pick from you wouldnt choose a dinted one would you?

I have sent my last 4 amazon orders back for being damaged, all sent out via indigostarfish who seem not able to realise that sqeezing a card digi set into a like for like size jiffy bag will result in damage.

I have had things when sent from Amazon direct arrive in proper card boxes (as opposed to the card envelope play use).

Amazon US are excellent for packaging, recently my Alien & Aliens arrived in a big box, with bubble wrap inside and the cases themselves were heatshrunk onto card backers, and not one mark was on either slipcase.

My HMV True Grit steely arrived well packaged so I will consider them again, i've given up on uk Amazon & Play.

This may seem odd but what kind of surfaces are by your letterboxes? We have a laminate floor with a mat so I guess there's a two or three foot drop. I wonder if this causes problems with heavier items? Although I'm sure if something comes in a pristine package with a damaged case then it happened during/before packing. Although it can be hard to tell with a Jiffy.

I had two books delivered last week and they were too big for the letterbox so I think they were saved from damage. I'd put a pillow or something soft by the front door but our cat would pee on it.... Does anyone have one of those baskets screwed to the door to catch mail?

I've mentioned it before but HMV have been doing a great job lately with those boxses.

Have to agree indigo are abysmal. Well I suppose they're okay for your standard amaray but anything else is a definite no no. I must offer my sincere condolences for those who ordered apocalypse now from amazon (indigo). The hmv apocalypse now packaging was sublime.

Very reassuring as, like I said, they are who I switched to. Their package will come soon so will be interesting to compare.

You should be okay with DVDs mate. It's only that mine had an easily dent-able card case!

Send it them back with threats of extreme violence unless they do something about it.

If you return something with IndigoStarfish is it through the same method as Amazon.co.uk?

Yeh mate just log into your account and have them call you. You'll always get a philipino, I have a great laugh with them.

You don't have to call them. I just click return and have stuff to print out to include with the package (that they cover later)

I should hope that doesn't happen. Play has been reasonably OK with me.
