Default connecting laptop to 1080p tv via hdmi

I understand that cable and satellite cant stream 1080p because there is just too much information for the systems to handle. So I was wondering how this comes into play when connecting a computer to an hd tv. Could I watch 1080p youtube vids on my tv?

I don't have a comp with hdmi out yet, I wanted to check on this before I dropped a few hundred.

As long as the graphics card can output 1080p and the TV can accept it, it will work perfectly.

I think most graphics cards can, since my old Laptop Radeon HD 3650 card could do it.

you have to connect your laptop with your tv via hdmi.
buy a bj or monoprice cable.
then if you are using w7
just press right click everywhere in the desktop,
click ons screen resolution
and in the option multiple displays
select : extend these displays

Just a note fella, BBC HD began broadcasting in 1080p earlier this year.

To add i was able to connect my parents laptop to their TV to watch come content. The laptop has a wizard that makes the process smooth for the layman, but as the dude above said it is possible.

If you have the hardware to support playback 1080P, you should be able to stream 1080P from YouTube, Vudu, Netflix, Hulu, etc on your big screen HDTV via HDMI.
