Default Sony BDP-S780: Fan noise level and DVD resume

I'm thinking about buying the Sony BDP-S780 blu-ray player. I noticed that there is a small fan in the back of the player. Now noisy is the fan and does the fan stay at a constant speed or does it speed up in increments while watching a move? Also does this player remember where you left off on more than 1 DVD even if you eject a DVD?

The Sony BDP-S780 is actually a downgrade from last years model. Many people say that it has longer loading times, worse picture quality for dvds, downgraded parts and inferior build quality than the bdp-s770. The fan can get noisy, it just depends on proper ventilation. If you are only planning to watch dvds just get a dvd player. The only two players that have memory position for dvds are the Sony PS3 and the Oppo BDP-93.

I noticed that in your postings that you made in the past couple of months that you had tried at least tried 3 blu-ray players this year and maybe returned them back to the store due to minor issues. Also you probably have a 32" tv according to your postings and a Panasonic DMP-BD65 blu-ray player. With your tv size, you'll not notice any difference in picture quality among blu-ray players, just only the features. Panasonic blu-ray players from last year and the current ones are better than any Sony blu-ray player. I think that you should keep your Panasonic DMP-BD65 (if you did not return it to the store due to the Vudu app problem that you experience) its a great blu-ray player. I use to have the same problem with the Vudu app on my Panasonic DMP-BD85, but Vudu has fixed it.

I could get a DVD player but there is no DVD player that has Netflix streaming and I'm on a Netflix streaming only plan. I did have a Panasonic BD65 but I had problems with Netflix streaming as I could not get HD most of the time and had lip synch issues with Netflix with this player, and it only shows up to 100 episodes for each TV show in Netflix streaming and leaves out the first few episodes sometimes.

I'm going to have to disagree strongly. I have both players, and the 780 is a major improvement. It is faster, quieter, does 2D to 3D conversion on ANY source including Netflix and Hulu, DVD and Blu-ray. It's noise reduction filter actually really improves the look of DVD's. I'm very happy wih it's upscaling. Plus it's less expensive than last year's model initially. I've had mine for 2 months, and it's amazing. It also DOES have a DVD resume feature.

Sorry, but I disagree with that statment. I have owned the the Panny 80, 65 and 210, Sony S570 and now S770. They are all pretty much comparable with the exception of the S770 which to me blows out the water any of the Panny players in just about every dept. Of course, this is just my personal opinion, but I'll bet there are a lot of happy S770 owners that probably feels the same way.....
