Default Considering the Samsung HT-C453N 5.1 Surround System, Need Advice

Here's the product in question. I've never owned a surround sound system before and it's only for my bedroom so £200 (or about) is my budget. I'm an absolute novice so some thoughts would be nice.

my opinion, any sound system that is made from the likes of Samsung or Panasonic...will most likely not be worth your time.

I'm not saying it won't fit your budget and do all you need it to do, but in the long run you will be cutting yourself short. Those systems use proprietary equipment meaning no upgrades down the road. The speakers will be underwhelming and the subwoofer is usually a joke.

Now again, Im not saying it won't fit your budget and/or needs. By all means, for a bedroom setup it may be enough. But if you're looking for something with long term value/use, I would consider getting yourself a receiver and two front speakers to start out and buy the rest piece by piece.

Unfortunately I am in the USA and don't know where a good place for you to shop is, or even how much the HT stuff sells for over there. Perhaps someone here that knows your area can help with that!

edit: upon further looks, keep in mind that sound system will only allow you to connect an optical cable for audio from your Bluray player or any other stand alone device.

Pioneer VSX-820-K 5.1 Channel AV Receiver (£233 + free shipping)

Pioneer SHS100 Compact 5.1 Speaker Set (£115 + free shipping)

-----------------------------

£348 + free shipping

...a little over your budget, but with a dedicated receiver you can upgrade the speakers down the road! (and also have more connectivity features)

Tempting, does seem a lot more sensible to fork out a little now to save myself in the longrun. Would it be cheaper to start out with two decent speakers like you mentioned and build on that? Could you suggest some spekers?

This may just be me being stupid but don't those speakers you suggested require more power than the amp can give?

Nope those speakers will do good with the pio receiver , the option of crackinhedz gave you is a better option that what you chose and you will be getting all the audio formats and down the road you can upgrade your speakers . Keep in mind when you do so , the left and right speaker should match the center channel .

I've actually bought the receiver, just not sure what to do about speakers. I could maybe start with just 2 I was thinking about these...http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pioneer-190w...=14U8GNLN3Q2XL or just go for that set.

For the price and i am only talking about price not quality compared to other speakers , this is a great option for a 5.1 system unless you say to me that you don`t have room for this .

Beng

and later you can had a subwoofer or 2

This is a much better option than the pioneer speakers and for 195.90 , those pioneer are about 129.90 for 2 speakers and with the Beng you will get more of a HT without breaking your wallet
