I doubt they would short change Blu-ray, especially given the fact that it currently has the highest install base. IMO the American releases of these movies will probably be on THD.

Warner's HD DVD and Blu-ray plans

One of the main HD players has just revealed us their plans for HD DVD and Blu-ray for 2007.
Warner, supporting both formats notwithstanding, seems to be playing up more the HD DVD card with a great number of the titles in that format for the moment.

But one can not help being happy with the announcement of a few catalog titles like the Matrix Trilogy, the Harry Potter tetralogy, or also Blade Runner, Bullitt, L.A. Confidential, Natural Born Killers, and Mad Max 2. All only foreseen on HD DVD. It should be noted that several titles will benefit from advanced interactivity: The In Movie Experience (IME) that allows for pushing the concept of interactivity beyond what we have on DVD. On the other hand the titles from the Dirty Harry Collection and Kubrick will come out at the same time as the HD DVD editions.

Recent movies, for their part, will come out in both formats: Zodiac by David Fincher, Happy Feet, Memories of Our Fathers (Flags of our Fathers?), Blood Diamonds...

2001: A Space Odissey
The Shining
A Clockwork Orange
Eyes Wide Shut
Ocean' s Eleven (1960)
Ocean' s Eleven
Ocean' s Twelve
The Wizard of Oz

This list is not exhaustive and it can change with the announcement of new titles. In any case, we are already rubbing our hands!

-The Editors

The way the list is formatted, it seems to say that the IME titles are the HD DVD exclusives (There's even one Blu-ray exclusive in there) which contradicts somewhat what The Editors say at the beginning (like Mad Max 2. Natural Borrn Killers, etc, being catalog HD DVD titles only). They also seem to have left out the word Blu-ray on this sentence:
Quote:

Maybe they were too excited rubbing their err.. hands

I would tend to believe the list formatting, as it reflects loosely the situation happening in the US Warner releases: IME titles not yet announced for Bu-ray.

So, if read that way, I too become a fly and rub my hands

I'm with Deci on this one. I believe it's more like "IME on HD-DVD only" and not "HD-DVD only". Hopefully paidgeek will have some news on the development of BD-J and PiP. Otherwise, all of these discs will have to be authored using the branching feature, like The Descent.

I have a few HD-DVDs with IME on it and I find it really annoying, I just want to watch the extras/comments after the movie, and not have to surf through them through the movie.

Just like the Universal non-announcement press release, this looks like another example of how the non-response on the forums is bigger than the response. Last year, an announcement like this would instantly have generated a zillion-page thread of smug attacks on Blu-ray and declarations that the war is over. Now, they've got less than 5 pages of "hey, I might get that", but they've been burned enough to hedge their bets that these will actually be exclusives here or that they'll be better sellers on HD DVD. It also looks like an increasing number are looking at the slates from the BD-exclusive studios and saying "hey, I really want that title", and a neutral studio list isn't setting their wallets on fire.

How about they just drop the IME all together on BD, make sure they give me LPCM and call it a day. I would be just as happy. This would also allow them to double dip later on and have people who really want it buy the copy with IME.

I think interativity is fine, and perhaps requierd in new hidef format. Thus, BD camp does need to finish it up and get it done right.

Ummm... hasn't HP and the Goblet of Fire already been released in Europe? Why would Warner release it again just for the French when they could just get it now from their neighbors across The Channel.

Because they are French, and the French don't like the English.

lol... it is probably what the HD DVD camp uses to inflate the amount of releases. Sure they'll release "over 300 titles by end of 2007" with 5 different versions of one movie in US, Japan, England, France, Norway, Uzbekistan, etc...

You don't actually think they will release 300 different movies, no, they just said 300 movies.

I've never been a huge fan of Harry Potter, so I've never seen the movies, but I would like other Warner titles like the Matrix, Posiedon, V for Vendetta and Batman.

Kids watch the Potter movies. I have never watched one, I don't care about IME I just want the best picture and sound I can get, so Warner give us Batman Begins.
