Version #1 and Version #2.
Other than the inclusion of what some might call 'fluff', for the movie itself is there any difference in video/audio? |

I wish you could've bought the theatrical edition and hearts of darkness only... Redux is a travesty. Coppola killed the pacing by adding all that silly crap back into it. I don't want a "funny" Kilgore... or a re-arranging of scenes.

"Both versions offer a really excellent Commentary by Coppola, obviously edited together from the same recording sessions, but timed differently for each version. The Redux commentary includes some information not included on the theatrical commentary." |

I own the 2-disc edition Blu-ray of APOCALYPSE NOW, and when I first watched the original theatrical cut from 1979, I was confused as to why at the end, it said "COPYRIGHT © 2000 BY ZOETROPE CORPORATION. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED." I also own the original Paramount DVD from 1999 (which was the original theatrical version), and at the end of the film it said "© 1979 Omni Zoetrope All Rights Reserved".
What has me confused is this: when Coppola was restoring the original theatrical version for Blu-ray, how could he screw up the copyright end title? The goof-up (the year 2000 in place of 1979) makes the theatrical version look like it was released in 2000 instead of 1979. I just don't understand why this happened and why Coppola didn't see the mistake. ![]() |

I think the French plantation scene adds a lot to the story. ...and more Brando as Kurtz is a good thing. ...maybe the best of things. |

I left a post in the "Movies Forum" section here yesterday about how I only "got" the film once I seen Redux. In my opinion, it's the better one. More lingering, more unpredictable, and more cinematic (to me).
I seen this has recently popped up on the pre-orders... ![]() I assume it's just a more affordable packaging of the already existing Full Disclosure edition? I can't find any info on any new extras or anything. |

I haven't seen this in years and years, just picked up the blu-ray. Which is everyone's preferred version to watch, the original or Redux? (Since I'm likely just going to watch one of the cuts when I check out the blu-ray, not both) I guess I mean in the way that while it has its fans, the consensus is that Watchmen Director's Cut is the way to go over the original, etc.

I'd definitely recommend the theatrical cut. While I did enjoy seeing the extra scenes added to the Redux cut, I don't necessarily enjoy them actually in the movie. I think they disrupt the perfect flow and pacing of the theatrical cut in such a way that it lessens the impact of the film.
Apocalypse Now is one the ten best films I've seen, maybe the best overall, and it has probably helped shape my ideology of the political economy more than any other single film. I'm not sure why FFC decided to insert those scenes back into the redux version years later, but I think he was right to excise them originally. Just a monumental film. |
