Default Cat5e vs Cat6?

Hi: I know this is a very basic question.I'm setting up my first streaming system(From my PC to the following devices PS-3,LG ST-600(like Apple TV), Internet radio device. Using a D-Link 655 router would be about a 35ft run from my PC to the switch which is a Cisco SF-100D with Qos the run of cable will be less than 3 ft to each device.Thinking since I'll be streaming from the PC I should use Cat6 for all the lengths of cable? Thanks for any help!!

I would use CAT6 - price is negligible and you'll have done everything you could to get the fastest transfer possible. That is what I did with my system... monoprice . com has great prices on them...

they are both rated for the same speed, both can run gigabit. iirc cat6 is usally better shield though and is less susceptible to transmission errors

CAT 5e is fine but you can buy CAT 6 if the price difference is not a problem.

I also recommend CAT6. I have a 50ft cable running from my router to my desktop PC and never had a problem.

I would say buy the Cat6 cables from monoprice.com (very cheap!) but I don't know what they charge for shipping to Canada.

Depends on what you order for cables. I ordered 2 6-ft HDMI cables that came to 6.30, and the shipping charge was 6.79, which was more than the price of the cables. However, I'd wait before I'd order, as they use Canada Post to ship the stuff out. If I wanted UPS, it was a ridiculous amount, like 45 dollars or something.

However, despite the fact the shipping was more, I got two 6-FT HDMI cables for 13.10, once the exchange rate was applied. I'm lucky if I can get 1 for 20 bucks in a B&M store.
