Default An Open Letter to HD DVD supporters.

This post is something of a rebuttal to one on another forum entitled "An open letter to Warner Bros." which is a lament abotu their decision to back Blu Ray by an HD DVD fan.

Dear HD DVD supporters, fans, and proponents:

Please stop. It's embarrassing, really. All the gnashing of teeth, and beating of chests and lies and spin and FUD. Enough already.

This whole situation is really simple. Your anger is directed at the wrong people. Warner Brothers didn't do anything to hurt you. Blu-Ray supporters did not cause you any direct harm. There is only one person to blame for your being upset and disappointed:

Yourself.

You made a CHOICE. You decided to purchase an HD DVD player, all on your own. No one forced you at gunpoint. You did not make this purchase under Duress from Toshiba. As the saying goes: "A fool and his money are easily parted." You decided to save a buck and go teh cheap route. You took a gamble, and you lost.

So really, stop it. Stop blaming Warner. Stop blaming Sony. Stop crying and being disappointed and pointing fingers all about. You have no one to blame but the person in the mirror.

That said - enjoy your movies. You still own them. They still work. No one is taking that away from you. When(if) you can afford it, buy a Blu-Ray player and enjoy more movies. Or, don't. But stop acting like you've been betrayed.

Thanks.

Man this is the wrong approach. You should be welcoming HD DVD ppl to Blu-ray, not making fun of them.

Ashamed of you I am! Some ppl take this stuff personal which is really dumb.

Why not direct their anger into a more constructive place?

Amir, Graffeo, Bell, Collins, RDJam, Lee Stewart etc

Rather than make them feel stupid, it's more productive to turn their energies into punishing the parties who likely influenced their purchases

Rubbing it in, at this point, is totally off base.

Not the wrong approach! I'm glad to see that some people here have not completely lost their minds and think that the olive branch thing is a stupid idea!

I'm all for welcoming the HD-DVD crowd to Blu-ray, but they don't deserve any special incentives nor do they need to bare their teeth and blame Sony, Warner, etc.

i don't have a problem all with this. the only thing where a feel he goes to far is saying the quote about a fool and his money, other than that, everything is dead on right and accurate.

While true, probably not the best approach.

I'm just here because having written an open letter, I am attracted to them.

What the Danno says does apply to a great deal of people. A few have not come down off their red kool-aid high yet and don't like peiople "harshing my buzz".

But I totally agree on getting the reds to at least spit purple. Here is my support group.

While funny, I gotta tell you that listening to Sony's chief is a good idea. Blu-ray needs a lot more support before the spectre of Microsoft downloading becomes the 1080i/compressed audio craze that sweeps the nation.

Instead of provoking an uprising of downloadable content, win the HD DVD crowd over.

Sir Howard Stringer has been very humble and it has worked well. It would be good to follow suit, with the exception of a select group of HD DVD enthusiasts that continuously insulted Blu-ray.com and posted senseless FUD.

exactly! where was paramount's incentive program to trade in your blu-rays for hd dvds when they left? I don't remember one person on this board ask if paramount would do trade ins, but warner is supposed to switch out all these discs that rabid fanboys bought. its ridiculous and pathetic. you made the decsion to back hd dvd, now just because it was a poor decision that doesn't mean somebody who made the right decision should have to bear the brunt of your poor decision, while you get off scott free.

extend the olive brance, but that doesn't include paying for their mistakes.

they are being big babies about this.

The reason he wrote that letter is because I am sure he has been angered by some hd dvd fanboys. I myself have received some less than nice e-mails in the past after I turned down an offer from hd dvd (long story for another time)

So yes this news of hd dvd slow and painful death has brought out the sadistic part of me and I an not ashamed to admit it. Are there some great respectful hd dvd owners, of course or there are. Are there some "dickwads" as Michael Bay put its you better believe it and it's them that my mocking is directed at.

I have both formats and I'm not interested in some hand-out or rebate program.........It is what it is........I have the A20 and 33 movies. If that's all the HD movies I'll ever have...then so be it.

Honestly though, there are dickwads on both sides of the fence. It seems that there are more delusional people on the red side, but it's hard to say for sure as our side is winning handily. People like RDJAM, Kosty, Amir... they deserve everything they get, however, the people they've brainwashed with their HD-DVD propaganda deserve our pity and hopefully our help (with getting a BD player).

p.s. what's this about an offer from HD-DVD? might be a long story, but sounds interesting.

im so sick of hearing the whine and complain, "but blu-ray isn't affordable!" "give me a 2.0 for $149". i mean are these people serious. this technology hasn't even been out for 2 years. could you get a dvd player in 199 for $98 dollars, NO! For chrissakes VHS players were more expensive than blu-ray players are after being on the market less than 20 months, and thats not even adjusting for inflation. these guys are nuts. im so sick of hearing things like,

HD DVD far from Dead

If TL51 comes out really soon, which it should, at least Lionsgate will switch to neutrality. Then, we can use the 400 million we were going to give WB for at least New Line exclusivity. Then we will have Paramount, Universal, New Line, Weinsteing, and Lions gate. Its far from over. When the prices are lowered any more Fox, Disney, WB and lastly Sony will have to release on HD DVD

Who cares, we won, it's over. The sooner we never hear HD-DVD again the better we'll all be.
