Yes, this receiver does decode DTS HD MA. It is defintely a good investment for 1.600 USD and should last you at least 8 years if you take care of it.

Are you picking this up online somewhere for that price? If so, link please. I'm also considering picking one up. Thanks.

Here's some highlights:

- Reon HQV video processing
- Network capable to stream audio
- 4 hdmi inputs vs. 3, 2 hdmi outputs vs. 1 (useful if you're running a projector primarily for movies and a regurlar HD TV for normal programming)
- Last but NOT least, 2 separate transformers, 1 for audio, 1 for video

The last one is a kicker for me. The 805 has a "Pure Audio" mode that turns off the video circuitry and display to reduce electrical interference when listening to music. It also kills the sub if you're like me and have full range front speakers and prefer to run 2 CH. for music. It sounds remarkably clean for a receiver at this price point. The 905 takes it a huge step further with the separate transformers.

What you are paying for is the much better video processing and a boost in power to your speakers over the 805 model. The 1.600 USD price tag is well worth the investment.

I haven't heard Onkyo speakers so I am a bit skeptical about them. Then again, I have been spoiled and have been using much better speakers.

Tell us what kind of a price range you have for speakers alone and maybe we could recommend something better. It would be a much better usage of your TX-NR905.

I agree. I don't know much, or heard much about Onkyo speakers. You may want to adjust your spendings and invest in some quality speakers, especially if you are looking to purchase a pretty nice receiver.

The 705 (what I have) also has the Pure Audio mode, as red_5ive mentioned, but has the same less features as the 805 compared to the 905.

With that price range may I suggest looking for some low end Paradigm speakers? I think you will not be disappointed with them.
