Don't have a PS3 (YET) but from all reports there should be a slight increase in quality when using an HDMI connection as opposed to an analoge connection.

I dont really think you will see a difference in quality. It really depends on your setup. the 360addon cant do 1080p unless its outputting over vga. If you have a 1080p TV than the hdmi ps3 setup will be better. It also depends on the movies. Some of the early Bluray releases were stinkers,l but that problem has been addressed and fixed.

thanks guys! i do have a full 1080p Tv its abit of a let down that i have to use componant cables, to connect up to it.So its all in the cables HDMI is far better than componant. i guess i will have to wait till march to use HDMI.
But hey i got the HD Drive for £100 so its a bargin if you ask me. Once again thanks. mav |

If your TV has a VGA port, you can get 1080p through that on from your XBOX HDDVD Add on.
PQ you might or might not notice a difference(It also depends alot on the movie transfer), but depending on your audio setup, I would think the PS3 is superior in that aspect. |

Once you have seen Blu-ray you will want to return you HD-DVD add-on(most people do)
Quality wise the HD-DVD player is a joke compared to the PS3 or any Blu-ray player for that matter. |

The HD DVD add-on uses USB, so its severely limited in its potential.

I have a 360 and the HD-DVD drive, and neither are poor quality. I think those who say such things are blatant fanboys.
However, I am changing over to Blu-Ray due to the fact that Fox is Blu-Ray only, as well as Disney. Grant it, the PS3 isn't as fun online or have as good of games, but I usually play games on my PC, and will mainly use the PS3 for movies, and the occasional racing game, and perhaps R:FOM. ![]() BTW, with most films you cannot tell the difference between a 1080i and 1080p, or at least I can't, and I'm very specific when it comes to PQ. The HD-DVD player does output in 1080p if you have proper display and connections. It was actually one of the first HD-DVD players to support 1080p. Last edited by HD4me; 02-01-2007 at 01:18 AM. |

Here are the main differences:
-PS3 is one unit (everything built in) -Xbox 360 (really three big parts - the console, the add-on, and the power brick) -PS3 supports just about all advanced audio formats (7.1 LPCM, TrueHD, and DTS HD Master Lossless [in future firmware release]) -Xbox 360 only gives you the lossy core for audio and not 5.1 or 7.1 TrueHD or DTS HD Master Lossless -PS3 supports HDMI 1.3a so you can forward the advanced sound codecs to your A/V receiver for decoding (A/V receivering coming in the near future) and gives you 10-bit color depth (better picture for future TVs coming soon) -Xbox 360 does not have HDMI at all -PS3 will support 1080p/24fps (direct from disc - no additional artifacts) before April -Xbox 360 1080p/60fps (means potential extra artifacts from conversion process) -PS3 will start back playing from when you hit stop then play -Xbox 360 will start from the beginning of the movie if you hit stop then play Besides these features (on the movie side) they pretty much operate the same. |

-the BluRay player isn't (which is fine for me, but some parents won't be buying a kid a $500-600 console) -the load times are longer on the PS3 -more movies are compressed via VC1 codec rather than MPEG2, but of course that's now changing. etc. Both are great options, but I have to have Home Alone and Toy Story in a HD format. ![]() |
