As many of you probably know the USA has multiple blu-ray 'upgrade programs' for dvd to blu-ray.
I know warner brothers did it for their shows, and other companoes just random films. The question is can this happen here, will it and why hasn't it? I have to admit i've sucumb many times now to upgrading dvd's to blu-ray... in some ways it's worth it, but i'm sick of the cost involved. Any thoughts? |

Agreed - I'd support it fully. The thing is, it seems that here in Australia the bare minimum often seems enough. We're often lucky to get a title released to Blu-ray, let alone them offer an upgrade program. They should though - $$$ wise it would be worth it for them. It just may not make them as much money as in the US so they deem it not worth it.
Emailed Warner Bros to see if they intend to implement a local version of the DVD2Blu program. Last edited by gettodamoofies; 06-30-2011 at 10:20 PM. |

It's a good idea, but the Americans only get about $5 off when they get given the option to do it, considering dvd's are pretty much worthless once they are 2nd hand then I would highly doubt Warner or any company would bother with it here. Though if they ever did by the time they got around to organizing such a program, I probably would have upgraded the rest of my dvd's to blu's by then anyway.

There was an Ad in a Empire Magazine a while back. Sony Did a simular thing with Van Damme promoting it. I cant remember the exact details now. But I do remember it saying something about every collection has unwatched dvds. If I find it, Ill scan it for you guys.

That all depends on 1's perspective, considering I paid in between $25-$35 each for most of my dvd's (I was an early adopter of dvd just like with blu-ray, I bought my 1st dvd player in December 1999 for $1000, I had over 500 dvd's in my collection [I've only got about 140 dvd's left in my collection now, which I will upgrade to blu-ray when they get released], and my fiancee had over 250 of them in her collection, total cost around $20000aud), then receiving $5 for each 1 (or a few hundred dollars for all of them) kind of isn't worth it when u look at it like that. I'd rather just give them to family and friends, though granted I have sold a few bulk lots so I could put the money towards something else, but I mostly try not too. Considering blu-rays are cheaper in the U.S than here then I think $5 is a reasonable price for studio's to pay them, but I think if such a program was to exist here then $6-$10 would be a fair price for them to pay us for our dvd's (depending on the title), especially since retailers like jb are still selling some dvd movies (I'm not talking about seasons) for $42.98 each.

The Van Damme program was a joke lol you buy a dvd and you can send then a dvd for next to nothing, and you get a yellow case in the process.
It wasn't a good deal lol i don't know who came up with it. When i think of all the versions of things i've had it reminds me why this is need. The first harry potter for instance.. i've purchased: The original full screen dvd The widescreen 'collectors edition' dvd the HD-DVD the blu-ray 'ultimate edition' So i've paid for the same film 4 times. A) this makes me a sucker but b) surely they should have some form of upgrading for people who keep giving them money... hmm maybe that's why they don't do it? |
