So "Since Inception" BD has moved 92.4% as many units of software as HD-DVD, meaning its basically caught up, given that we're a couple weeks beyond that figure and the rate of increase would imply an easy overtake?

And Year-to-date sales of Blu ray media as of the most recent figure is 2.6X the sales of HD-DVD?

In some ways these numbers match with DVDEmpire. They seems more unbalanced than the Amazon numbers.

If these are authoritative, it does a few things:

- Helps prove DVD Empire numbers are pretty accurate.
- Helps prove Amazon numbers are somewhat HD-DVD slanted
- help almost prove that BD software sales since inception have passed up HD-DVD.

Just.... DAMN. Even die hards like Plazman are showing how it is. Blu-Ray has dominated, and the BIG titles arent even out yet! The next 2 months is going to be, for a lack of a better phrase, a complete slaughterhouse. Universal releases by september?

2.6 Blu-Ray flicks are SOLD vs 1 for HD-DVD. Wow. Just amazing. And the next 2 months are full of top notch titles that are going to sell like gangbusters. Its seriously a sad day for hd-dvd fans, but a GLORIOUS Day to be a fan of High Def for the future! The people have spoken, Blu-Ray has won.

Hmurchinson can take his happy pills and post all he wants, i dont think anyone can spin this ANYWAY other then hd-dvd is on life support.

Fox said it would happen, no one believed them then, I hope they do next time!

Yep, just look at the stomping that HD-DVD is going to get in just the next two release weeks. BD has 20 discs coming and HD-DVD has...3 (and only 1 is exclusive )

This comes pretty close to confirming paidgeek's "unofficial" 3:1 BD over HD-DVD sales ratio from the Insider's thread the other day...

Great news. Now they just need to make 1080p TVs cheaper.

Where's my prediction that you would start to see them turn on each other?

"You're a defeatist"
"I'm surprised hearing that from someone who has incited so many debates"

Quote:
Well, it's extremely frustrating to see studios sit on the sidelines when they have hd-dvd releases in the can.

Pent up frustration is evident when you see the first decent new release in months shoot to the top 100 of the Amazon charts and best the position of the #1 BR release.

The real concern that I have is that studios are intentionally starving HD-DVD content over the next several months to see if they can kill HD-DVD off that way.

I'd love to see what Amir has to say about this, backed by some facts, not the same "just hang in there" we've been hearing for weeks now.
In one WEEK BD went from 85% to 92.4% of total HD DVD sales since inception. How INCREDIBLE is that?

And the big titles haven't even gone pre-order on Amazon yet!

Wow, Fox is going to look back and wonder how they were so far off on that 3.5x by the end of March prediction. It's about 2.6x now, and growing FAST.

The numbers above are from two weeks ago. paidgeek may have the week ending Jan 21 (3x).

Sony apparently did a fumblerooski on this and apparently it worked. The PS3 came out with few major games which made all the media pronounce it an overpriced toy. The people who went out and got it found out that it could play HD movies so rather than loading up on games they loaded up on movies. That gives the momentum to Blu-ray in this critical timeframe and stunts HD DVD during a time it was set for major gains.

So while it looked like Sony was fumbling the ball they were really just kicking it closer to the goal line.

^Excellent post. I know that's what I ended up doing (and I don't even have a HDTV yet). I'm currently at 3 PS3 games and 14 BD movies.

Maybe Sony intended for there to be a lack of quality games at launch?
