How good (or not) are these when compared to other new or recent LCD or Plasma sets?
If not these, what would you say is the all-around best DLP set on the market right now (sure, they aren't quite as anorexic-pretty as an LCD or Plasma, but they seem to offer the most consistent solid picture quality as far as I've been able to observe)? I own the HL-T5687S. Colors are amazing, black levels are good, 24p support, 3D support hopefully the Mitsubishi 3D BD player will work with the set. Geometry is very good, maybe 1/8" bowing from corner to center. Good viewing angles. The bad side, it's not as focused / crisp as other sets, and has a heavier silk-screen effect, which are the trade-offs that give the set improved viewing angles over the previous year's model.
Not sure about the reliability. I initially owned the HL-S5679W and it crapped out (as I've heard a lot of them have) and got an HL-T5687S as a replacement. Owned the new set for 2+ months. Last edited by dakota81; 01-09-2008 at 08:18 AM. |

Well, if the picture is not up-to-par as far as focusing/crisp-abilities are concerned, how can you tell very well if colors and blacks are nice? It would seem to me then that there hopefully are better sets out there. |

The HL-T5687S is ~$1600 while LCD and Plasmas that size are easily $2500+. Of course there are better sets than this. You just have to pay more for them. |

I haven't seen any of the HLT sets, but hear they have the best colours of any display so far.
Other recent DLP and SXRD TVs appear to have better blacks though. I believe that for some strange reason, the LED TVs don't have a dynamic iris. Nick |

So, no one else has had any real negative things to say about them or think they are some of the best one can currently get?

I LOVE my Mitsu 57" 1080P DLP TV!!! the picture to me is GORGEOUS!!! and u cant even get near 57" in LCD or Plasma for under 2G's... my TV before tax was $1,799, If I had to say one bad thing about these TV's would only be the LAMP... while most warranties cover the parts and labor of replacing the bulb, it's still frustrating to have the downtime of them having to come out and do the repairs. other then that, I LOVE my DLP. PICTURE IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

Would you say the picture is better than that on an LCD or Plasma? |

I don't know if I could say BETTER... but l can say with confidence it is FOR SURE just as good as most LCD's I have seen. Like I said before... more screen for your buck. If you don't mind the slightly larger size.... then by all means get one!

I have the HL-T6187S from Samsung and it is amazing. The thing is so bright that we had to turn it down to the lowest brightness setting and it still hurt our eyes from how bright it was while watching movies in a dark room. The colors are awesome and I haven't noticed any fuzziness in the picture. I guess a lot of PQ for a TV is subjective, but the TV pic is so good, that my wife says it looks amazing and talks about it to visitors now and she isn't even into tech stuff. (Although she also touts Blu-Ray now thanks to much indoctrination from me and seeing the results on the screen)

Yes it is the full 1080p...thing is, I live in a pretty small apartment, probably 700 sq ft or so, so Im not sure I really needed the 65in, probably could have gotten a 50 or 55inch one and been fine, but Im not complaining... ![]() Last edited by Tcan21; 01-09-2008 at 01:41 PM. |
