United Kingdom Ghost In The Shell Fans

I'm a huge fan of this series, both the TV series and Movies.

I have both films on blu-ray (multiple copies) and the compete TV series on blu-ray (both gigs) and of course the Solid State Society film, which came in it's own box set.

Just wondering if there are any other UK/Irish GITS fans who would like to chat about the franchise and such.

Here's a small video I did of my collection: http://www.vimeo.com/12346621

I imported mine from Japan, has the English & Japanese dub and Japanese subtitles, no English subtitles.

The discs are region free, but they will cost you....

I like the GITS movie and series, I own the Tv series on DVD, and the first, second and 'Solid State Society' films on DVD also.

I would like to get the films on Blu-ray eventually, but I don't really want to buy the '2.0' version of the first film... I just want the original.

The Blu-ray has both versions of the original movie. Zaavi have the double pack which includes the original film it's updated 2.0 and sequel Innocence for 7.85.

The original movie on the 2.0 Blu-ray is an upscale from a source worse than the DVD, so I really don't think it counts.

Right, sorry I didn't know as I haven't checked it out. The damn subtitles keep putting me off version 2.0 and Innocence. I can only get through 20 minutes withoutturning it off. Shame as it looks amazing. It's a decent price though.

Yes, I would have felt guilty if I'd steered you in the wrong direction. Still a good set for under seven quid though. I'll check out the AV on the original GitS later and report back. Those subtitles are killer though....

So the subs are trash in the UK 2.0? I know they were in Innocence (I returned mine because of it and bought the Japenese UE). I have the Japanese Origina/2.0 bundle, and that I think is region free. And the original isn't an upscale - just suffering from the overscan boxing...

I was always a huge fan of the GITS movies and I really looked forward to grabbing Innocence on blu. It's a shame that the subs are a disaster on the US/UK versions. I really don't get that... why does Japan have such kick-ass releases with top tier audio etc. and then they come out in the US/UK as crap? Cowboy Bebop: The Movie is another prime example. Unacceptable! I want to grab the Innocence Absolute Edition from Japan but the $70+ price tag is a tad steep as far as I'm concerned. It's bull.

Have been meaning to check out Stand Alone Complex for some time. I actually picked up the the Laughing Man/Individual Eleven/SSS DVD boxset a few years ago in a sale, only to discover that Laughing Man and Individual Eleven are edited from SAC... not wanting to spoil SAC, they remain unwatched, but I still haven't gotten around to buying the 1st and 2nd Gig sets! The Japanese BD transfer of SAC is apparently not so great:

Affenheimtheater - Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Japan Blu-ray Disc HD Screenshots.

In any case, nice to see LM, IE and SSS getting Blu releases in the West (Region A, but B releases to follow, surely?). Probably not worth holding out to see if SAC gets a HD release here any time soon!

I disagree, I own all 4 SAC box sets plus the SAC Trilogy box set and the transfer on all them and is great, not a perfect 5/5 but at least a 4/5 for the first GIG and 4.5/5 for the 2nd GIG.

They're passable if you have the Japanese audio track and English subtitles. As they say 'ignorance is bliss' but if you have English audio/subs combo like I do at night then they're extrememly off-putting. You often get little discrepancies with subtitles but I think these are a little to far over the top.

I never did get this whole subs controversy. I always watch anime in native language, with the English subs and they seemed alright to me.
