I'd start off with The Criterion Collection there's an excellent diverse choice to start off with.

Hi Mavrick,

Take a look at Shout Factory's Roger Corman Collection. The transfers for these releases range from very good to great:

For superior release quality (be it better audio and/or video) I recommend these:

The Prestige (lossless audio)
The Island (lossless audio, mega-high video bitrate)
Memento (10th anniversary version)
Red Cliff (24bit audio, HD extras)
The Evil Dead (includes both framing versions)
The Machinist (high bitrate video, UK version has a glitch, US does not)
Gangs of New York (remastered version, superior all round)
Zodiac (higher bitrate video, lossless audio)

There are plenty more but that should get you started.

If you can afford higher price tag, I would recommend:
- The Bridge on the River Kwai (Collector's Edition Digibook) (hurry up, it'll be OOP soon!),
- North by Nortwest (Digibook),
- Doctor Zhivago (Digibook).

Ok so I've made up a list of whats been mentioned so far.

Seven Samurai
Castaway
Death Race 2000
Zodiac
Gangs of New York
The Bridge on the River Kwai (Collector's Edition Digibook)
Scream Trilogy (Works out to about £13.25! vs the £30+/- it costs here)

Thats pretty much what I want ASAP there are a few other titles but I feel I can wait for those.

--criterions for sure; after that I'd go for the Blue Underground releases, as so many are better than the UK versions.
--Paramount classic westerns
--some of the recent MGM releases can be purchased through sellers at amazon including "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"

It's not really a sale for us in the UK. Plus shipping it's only about £1 cheaper than Axel.

German release of Death Race 2000 might have better PQ than the US release and its only around 10 euros.
