Default Harry Potter collection, which ones?

So I am ready to invest in the Harry Potter series. I know there are ultimates, years and normals. Which are the ones I should get for the longest uncut time?

Or if I am guessing, wait for an Epic Collector's set in the future?

yep. that's what i'm doing. and only once dammit! not a huge fan. never read the books, so whatever the first release is, that's what i'm getting. as long as it has extras.

likely it will be re-released every year for the following decade but the first one, if solidly made, is all i'll be buying.

Definitely wait for the epic collector's set. I bought my HP1 Ultimate edition when it was released, but never bought the others as I knew it there would be mega set in the end. I'm trying to get rid of my HP1 UE now

So am I.

I've read and listened to the books countless times mainly b/c it so easy to get immersed into the world. I'm a huge fan of LOTR as well, but re-reading the LOTR books is a chore!

As for the HP movies, I am a purist and I don't like when too many changes are made to movies based on books. HP1 remains my favorite movie based on how faithful it is.

I was almost in tears laughing when I saw that they released a 'Harry Potter - Years 1-7 Part 1' set. If you had gone this long without Harry Potter on DVD or Blu-ray, why now, with only like half a year until they are all out, invest in a boxset that if you watched them all together, you would end in the middle of one movie. I stopped buying Harry Potter on home media after I picked up Order of the Phoenix cheap, never upgrading to Blu-ray or anything, because I'm waiting to see what they bring out for the entire collection. Hopefully something a bit better than the trunk from the 1-5 set (not saying that was bad, just I want more :P, like them ALL extended)

I wouldn't buy any film due to the fact that after film one and two, they have constantly våldtagit the books and should be punished accordingly.

And that is a fact.
[Show spoiler]"Oh, yeah, lets have Harry flirt with a non-magical, random girl in a café so we can establish that he is ready to mate. Then we'll throw in Ginny at some point."..."And then we can set the Burrow on fire, 'cause that's in the book!" "AWE$OME!"
All responsible for those ideas should have been fired for even thinking them. Why the hell would Harry even consider? It's so stupid it's stupid. And that's just two examples.

But perhaps the biggest crime of all: Letting Dumbledore, as lovable as Richard Harris/Columbus/Rowling made him, go and be downright unpleasant. As much as Harris gave him life, Gambon took it. Not Gambons fault though, just doing what he is told, as the good cattle they all are.

Anyone familiar with the Hollywood Saloon-podcast should recognize films 3-7b as McMovies.[/rant]

So, the set you REALLY should buy is the book set with all seven books (non-movie-poster-covers, of course). Or get the e-books due in Sept/Oct (memory fails at exactly when). Or the brilliant audio books, read by Stephen Fry.

Am I the only one seeing Winnie the Pooh on Friday?

I totally agree about Dumbledore.
Movies 3 and 4 were OK, not bad comparing to the book. 5 wasn't that bad either, so many things missing, but still not a terrible movie. Now with 6 they did the worst. I remember leaving the cinema so dissapointed. My favourite book turned into the worst movie (in my opinion). They left out so many important things, like the Dumbledore lessons to Harry, Voldemort's past, the funeral, and so on. And added usseless things like setting the Burrow on fire, and pointless love scenes. Plus the ugly green tint they added to the movie. Fortunately, movie 7 seems to be much better.

No, he's just being a grump... Being a huge fan of both the books and movies, I think it is fine with the way the directors, producers, etc. have interpreted these books into film. Yes, the burrow didn't catch on fire and yes, Harry doesn't flirt with some muggle girl, but the whole idea was that no where was safe and Harry is growing up and starting to be attracted to girls. They are just added scenes to help interpret the story because the way it was in the books was too difficult to adapt. This is part of the film making process and happens with every book to film project.

And no, I will not see Pooh...

It's not a fact because you believe so. An example of a fact is 'The Harry Potter film series is based upon the books by J.K. Rowling'. An example of an opinion is 'The film series constantly våldtagit the books and should be punished accordingly'.

Clearly many people enjoy the film series as it is currently the number one highest grossing film series ever, and it's not even finished. Who cares if Harry talked to a girl in a cafe? It's not like they made him a pimp. They added in the Burrow scene to add some action into the film, as they took out the big final battle to make a bigger build up to Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Have your opinion if you want, but don't claim it's fact when clearly it's not

Whoa, chill. We can't expect all films to be faithful to their books. LOTR has the Elves at Helm's Deep, and that didn't ruin the movie. The Grass Harp changed who got shot out of the tree, and actually made a larger impact with that change than the novella did. Percy Jackson is nothing like the book, but it was still an enjoyable movie on its own.

I'm a huge fan of the original source material of most movie adaptations, but I don't have a huge fit and boycott stuff because of the changes. Sometimes it gets downright silly. For example, people boycotted the Percy Jackson film simply because Annabeth was brunette, rather than a blond. It's annoying that changes are made from the books, but there are still things within the movie that make them enjoyable. Also, if it gets people interested in reading the books, even better. D:
