Default Watermarks and Advertisements

Does anyone else get frustrated by either the watermarks (advertising the show you are watching, as if you have forgotten), and the advertisements appearing during your show?

We have watermarks of the channel logo on our screens here, but not nearly as large or as intrusive as the US channels. How do you feel about them? Some of them I can just ignore and forget they are there, but others, they just keep rotating and changing (Smallville has the largest i've seen so far, and constantly advertises the next show).

Couple of examples;

Do you have a 'worst' one, how do you feel about it?

They're very annoying. There was an episode of "Scrubs" that made fun of them though by creating a fake show during a character's daydream and then later in the same episode playing the watermark for this fake show.

Family Guy did a gag about it to. They showed a family of a fake show in the corner and Stewie yelled at the family and told them to get off his show. Hilarious!

^ 'Shoving Buddies' yeah I remember that one. Why do they think they need to advertise during a show? that's what commercial breaks are for dammit.

TNT is the absolute biggest offender with this. We don't need to know for a full hour episode that another show is airing that week. But the absolute worst they have are those giant moving advertisements across the entire bottom of the screen where characters walk out and do something, or like those massive franklin and bash banners that take up nearly a 1/4 of your screen. Sometimes on History, I'd be watching Ax Men, and Mike and Frank from American Pickers would carry a sign or furniture out across the banner and wave at the viewers.

I've complained about this way back to when the networks were first testing with them. People didn't want to complain because it was just a "little bug". Even the little bugs bug me.

The only way that networks are going to stop this abhorrent behavior is if they feel we're going to stop watching as a result of these tags.

We were watching something on FOOD Network last night & for some reason they thought it would be alright to advertise their new Food Truck Wars show multiple time....BY HAVING A LITTLE FOOD TRUCK GO ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN HONKING IT'S HORN!!!!

Annoying!

The ones with sound are the worst. Second place: Larry the Cable Guy.

It's easier to list the channels that don't use the practice. The moving ones that take up a huge amount of space are the most annoying. G4 is a bad offender in that regard, their in-house ads litter the screen for large chunks of programming.

CW does it a lot and I remember some other major network doing a ****ing countdown to the show that was up next and there was a huge clock watermark counting the whole hour

Detest Them, I have left feedback on all the stations here in Australia via their websites saying how annoying they are, they all have dimmed them somewhat. None will ever remove them of course, we the viewer are too stupid to know what station we are watching
As for the ad's running thru the current program, I simply stop watching it, and no, I no longer watch much free to Air TV for this reason

Yeah advertising the station you watch is stupid, however with more and more shows getting cancelled in favor of cheaper to make reality shows i am not sure why they don't change those tickers to advertisements i would be in favor of that in theory. Increase advertising income and therefore allow quality programming to once again be allowed to continue on tv. If your gonna annoy me have a little mcdonalds logo pop up or pepsi/coke or something, not the network logo for 24 hours of the day.

I was fine with the channel logos in the corner (a.k.a. "bugs"), but I HATE those moving ads at the bottom of the screen during the show I'm watching for another show I have no intention of watching. Its really annoying since obviously playing commercials wasn't good enough so now that got to do that crap to force us to buy the DVD / Blu-Rays so we can watch the show without seeing that nonsense!
