Default Anyone disappoint in CES?

First, and foremost - let me preface by saying that I think Josh, Ben and Peter did a fantastic job keeping us all up to date on the great news as it occurred at CES. We are VERY lucky to have them representing us at this event!!

Now, I know we are all excited about all the fantastic studio news that has taken the industry by storm since last Friday, but is anyone else just a little disappointed that there have really been no new titles announced during CES(except, maybe Men In Black)? I would have thought that we would be told some great news from our supporting studios regarding releases that were in the works, possibly for 2nd Qtr.

I know, for myself, I am VERY happy about all the studio support - but where are the new titles???? Not at all greedy here, just anxious...

Isn't CES mostly a hardware show anyway?

I would take WB exclusivity days before CES over any cool gadgets at CES anyday.

Lots of details need to be worked out with respect to release schedule and this probably involves Transformers, Bourne movies, Shreck movie(s) and Batman Begins in addition to all the stuff from our guys.

I think movie announcements are the cherry on top. This is first and foremost a hardware show. So the question is are you disappointed with the announcements in BD hardware?

Excluding the Warner news, CES in general was a snore this year.

I don't think there was one MUST HAVE cool product.

Aside from potential Uni/Paramount titles, the lack of titles announced from CuRRENT blu backers was disappointing!

I was expecting 2 or 3 major catalogue announcements.

Oh no - not at all. Everything sounds VERY exciting.Maybe my misunderstanding that titles would also be involved in this.

Believe me when I say - I am over-joyed with everything else that has occurred.

I have to agree that title annoucements are not key at this show. More Tekkie stuff is annouced. There were a few titles annouced, but there is list already out there of what is coming in the next few months. I am sure that we will be getting plenty of annoucements here on what is coming shortly. Studios need titles released to make $$$$.

I have to agree. I was not too impressed with the new technology. There are only so many new TV's you can look at. I only saw what was reported but there may have been some stuff that was not reported on that probably was preety cool.

There were a couple of cool thing that I liked. The new SD card with built-in wi-fi looks good. You are able to download photos directly from your camera to your computer or if you are out and about and there is wi-fi access you can download to 20 different photo websites if you are not at home.

Also I am really interested in the new satellite system XStreemHD. 1080p video with 7.1 DTS HD MA. It seems that the prices on this will not be bad.

I think with the way CES started (by Warner announcing blu-exclusive) it left a lot to be desired from the war in the minds of blu fans. I too have felt let down over the last couple of days. And the reality of it is... it might end right where it has been the last couple of days.

This is a hardware show. You shouldnt expect a lot of movie announcements.

Dont studios usually hold their own seperate press conferences to announce thier movie line-up for the quarter? Wait for those, im sure you'll feel better after those.

I am happy about it. Because of the CES, the format war will end. This also shows the media how popular Blu-ray is over HD DVD and I think will help bring up sales over DVD finally.

It appeared the movie announcements centered around new content and/or features the studios would be rolling out for blu-ray. It's true that CES has been more of a gadget and/or cool feature event than just announcing titles. I think all the studio support news that took place are the seeds that needed to be planted to generate big title announcements later on this year. Stay tuned because there is certainly more to follow

This is the best CES that we could have hoped for! CES is the # Electronics show in the world. The WB announcement before the show began was the biggest news coming from the event. The entire technology news sector was present at the show and reported on the WB announcement, advancements in BD technology, and introduction of new BD players. In addition, the HD DVD Group left the show to hide somewhere. Absolutely, no positive news for HD DVD. Movie announcements (for BD) were made and will continue to be made through out the year. The 2008 CES was AWESOME

I am absolutely excited about the new Panansonic DMP-BD50. Plus, there were a great bunch of other players announced.

As far as title announcements go, I've already expressed my disappointment in this. It's become tradition for studios to show title lists and prelim box art at the show. At this point in time, I really have no idea what the BD studios' plans are for the year. Don't get me wrong though, I'm sure there is going to be plenty of great titles this year...it's just all under wraps right now.

Obviously the WB news leading into CES set the bar high for CES to beat. So I could see where some people might be disappointed.

Remember talkstr8t's post the weekend before CES. It's been quite prophetic so far. He said CES would be the inflection point where the good news would START and that shortly thereafter there would be no doubt of the outcome of the format war.

Obviously, there is more to come...

I was disappointed in CES mainly because a lot of the hardware announcements (vid cams, GPS, etc.) were things we saw last year, or companies just showcasing products they've already released. Very little innovation... no big "wow" item or cool new tech.

Quite honestly, I think the Blu-ray/HD-DVD banter overshadowed everything, which is a positive because of public exposure, but dammit if I don't want my gadgets, too.
