Necessary to those who wish to complain maybe.

But do we honestly need every thread for every sequel, remake or prequel to have the same, same, same, same, same "Omfg a sequel Hollywood has run out of ideas" Schtick. There are threads devoted to that.

Even though sequels, remakes and prequels are almost as old as film itself.

It's like coming into a Spiderman thread to say "I hate comic book based movies I'm never seeing this". Wow, enthralling addition to the subject of the film at hand.

Enough already with the sequels/reboots or whatever you wanna call them. The fourth one was a disaster, so that shos me there really is not too much more mileage in the series.

That's personal opinion though. I like Vegas vacation way more than I like European Vacation, which I consider the weakest in the series. (And yes, I know that is also an opinion. ) Who knows, new blood may breathe new life into this series and it'll surprise people. You never know.

I completely agree, Vegas was WAY better then European which I have only even managed to sit through once. I do wish the kids weren't constantly recast in every damn movie though. Hopefully if they turn this into a new Vacation franchise they can keep the same damn kids, now where can I get some damn bait?

I'm glad I'm not alone in that. I always felt like I was. Guess Vegas Vacation has more fans than I thought.

And I always thought the kids always being recast was hilarious, and I was kinda hoping they'd keep that up with these movies.

I vote for a sequel to Harry Potter. Let's bring them back as zombies in Hogwarts!

That was my immediate reaction too but there's a lot of potential in the generational angle.

Making it Rusty's story give you the best of both worlds - you get a fresh start but you can reference and build on the best bits of the previous films.

I'm game for this on the condition the Chevy Chase and Beverely D'Angelo come back as grandpa and grandma. Would love Randy Quaid too, but that seems highly unlikely (maybe they'll film part in Canada or something, lol). I don't just want cameos though. They have to play a key part in the movie.

My favorites in order:
1. Vacation
2. Christmas Vacation (I probably watch this one the most though)
3. Vegas Vacation
4. European Vacation

Maybe Grandpa Clark will be like Grandma in the first movie and he'll ride around in the backseat with them.

So, then which is it? A sequel? A reboot? A reimagining?

The complaints are well-deserved as this seems to be a new disease out there in the film industry. Just wait unitl they reboot or remake the wrong thing - then ya'll will be complaining too.

It's a sequel, but its also a reboot because its not about Clark. Not sure how its hard to understand.

As for remake, yes there are some that are unnecessary, but this isn't even a remake so the complaints aren't needed. The only reboot I'm pissed about is Evil Dead, but its for more reasons than the fact that they're remaking it. But that's for another thread.

Second Draft of ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’ Reboot Completed, Peter Segal to Direct?

It’s been a while since we heard about that National Lampoon’s Vacation reboot, but if you were hoping Hollywood had forgotten all about it, I’ve got bad news for you. Last year, we reported that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (the duo behind this summer’s Horrible Bosses) had been tapped to write the screenplay, titled Vacation (no “National Lampoon’s”). As of now, the two have completed the second draft of their script, and New Line is actively seeking a director for the project. Read more after the jump.

An unnamed source (who was “briefed on the project but not authorized to talk about it publicly”) told 24 Frames that Peter Segal was among the directors New Line had spoken to about the project. Segal’s last two projects have been reboots as well — 2008′s Get Smart and 2005′s The Longest Yard, neither of which garnered particularly positive reviews. His other credits include Anger Management, Tommy Boy, Naked Gun 33 1/3, and Nutty Professor II: The Klumps.

Previously, we reported that Vacation would center around Rusty Griswold (played in the original by Anthony Michael Hall), son of Clark (Chevy Chase) and Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo) in the original film, as he embarks on a journey to take his own family to Wally’s World one last time before the park closes for good. It’s possible that some of those details have changed since then, but the film will definitely revolve around Rusty. Goldstein spoke to 24 Frames about trying to give the character a populist appeal: “He’s kind of an everyman, goodhearted, maybe a little bit of a doofus.”

There’s no word yet on who may be playing Rusty, but the studio is hoping to get Chase and D’Angelo to reprise their roles from the first film. The two would appear in a scene toward the end of the film, when Rusty encounters his parents.

I don’t think anyone was asking for a National Lampoon’s Vacation update, but if it has to be done, this premise sounds better to me than a straight-up remake. As Goldstein points out, focusing the story on Rusty, rather than Clark, gives everyone more flexibility to change things around and make the film their own.

Discuss: Would you watch the updated Vacation? Do you think Peter Segal is a good pick to direct? Who do you think is a good pick to play Rusty?
Source

Interesting that they're going after a new director considering Dave Dobkin said just a few days ago that he was directing it still...Wonder what's going on?

So Clark and Ellen would only appear in a cameo near the end? That's kind of lame. Is this still being written by Daley and Goldstein? I know a lot of people loved Horrible Bosses but I was not of them. The director choice also does not inspire much confidence for me.
