I think the future will bring many bad news related to gaming and computers in general. Computers are still a very obscure world concerning people's health.

How hard is it for a gamer to take a break and move once in a while? Seriously, I like gaming too, but I can't sit there for 12 hours straight without moving, eating, sleeping, using the restroom, or performing any number of other vital bodily functions. WTF?!!

I remember many 12 and 18 hours days playing Ultima Online. But at least I took bathrooms breaks and ate during those times.

Good for that guy.

I do find it amusing that the link refers to a 20 year old as a child/kid... I also find it amusing that it makes the news that one guy died from this, out of the hundred million + PS3's and 360s sold...

That is a rate of 0.0000001%

That is about the same chance I have of winning the California lotto spending $2.

Your odds of getting struck by lightning are ten times BETTER.

If you are trying not to die, you should all play video games 12 hours a day to reduce your chances of getting struck by lightning....

The family of a budding computer programmer have on Saturday launched a campaign to raise awareness about the health risks of playing online computer games after their son died following a marathon session on his Xbox.
come on. a freaking campaign? this isn't a health risk from playing online games. hell, the next paragraph alone tells you the real issue!

Quote:
A post-mortem revealed that 20-year-old Chris Staniforth -- who was offered a place to study Game Design at Leicester University -- was killed by a pulmonary embolism, which can occur if someone sits in the same position for several hours.
"which can occur if someone sits in the same position for several hours"

that has NOTHING to do with playing videogames, it's simply being a really lazy bastard. i sit in the same position all the time when TruTV plays marathons of "Cops" and "World's Dumbest" better add them to the campaign list of things that can kill you too!

this 20 year old "child" ( ) did this to himself.

Wow, that's insane. I had a pulmonary embolism when I was 22, it was scary as hell.

Technically, he is an adolescent. Well, according to psychologists. Adolescences nowadays goes up until 25.

Ever heard of the term "college kid"

Well, on the bright side, he died doing something he obviously loved. How many of us will be that lucky?

Same here, after about 2 hours I usually take a 5-10 min break and grab a drink or something.

A sad case to be sure. Unfortunately I have a family member who probably has a similar lifestyle to the person in the article. He simply can't get away from the computer and spends most of his day playing games on it. It's a psychological addiction that drives these people.

a few months ago there was an article posted on this site in the bizarre news of the humor / general section that said a man was living in the same chair for over 2 years... hadn't moved... was covered in feces and maggots for god's sake (his friends and "girlfriend" brought him food and drinks) and yet... he didn't die? either he has terrific genes or this type of death is like, one out of six hundred million!

As this happened in the UK and he was only 20 years old without any previous serious health issues(assuming) I'd be surprised if this person wasn't overweight. Many British teens and young adults are in a horrible condition and eat unhealthy and don't leave the house for days.

Just can't see this happening to a normal adult that takes a good care of himself. This has nothing to do with a gaming console. It is always such a tragedy and way too early. If he still lived with his mom and dad(probably) I'd rather point my finger at the parents than start any campaigns.
