Absence of Malice Blu-ray Review

I just saw this added to the site. This is an excellent film that I thought would take a lot longer then this to show up. Great Newman/Field flick.

Yes, a nice addition to the BD catalogue.

The Sony-Image relationship is proving to be quite fruitful - especially since Sony are being so slow in releasing their classic back-catalogue titles themselves.

omg, an actual good movie is coming from Image.
maybe more Sony controlled catalog titles are on the way.
I certainly hope so. That would be the most surprising development ever.

Love this movie and one of my favorite Paul Newman films.

Who has the rights to "The Verdict"? Hopefully that one is released soon.

The Sony/Image releases are so inconsistent. This gets extras that never appeared on the R1 releases (they appeared on the UK DVD though). Others don't carry over extras from the DVD releases or get down mixed audio.

I wonder if that is more to do with Sony not going out of it way to make sure and provide easy access to materials to Image or Image not taking any extra effort?

The reviewer over at Hi-Def Digest appears to have looked at a completely different disc than Michael...seems the fellow over there doesn't really know what an f/x-less, 30 year-old drama is supposed to like. That's my take, at least.

Oh, thank God! I saw the HiDef review and was so disappointed. I've really been looking forward to this release, glad to know there's still hope.

There is nothing to be disappointed about

This is yet another fantastic Sony transfer that fully does the film justice. Disregard the nonsense and buy with confidence.

Savant doesn't love the film, but he gives the disc very high marks in the A/V department. Again, the Hi-Def Digest reviewer appears completely unreliable with regards to catalog releases so keep it in mind on his future reviews.

Did anyone else notice what appears to be a missing bit of dialogue between Newman and Field in the final scene where they are talking by his boat? After Field says "Hi", Newman's reply seems to be missing and there is a strange jump to her saying "Not so hot." It looks like an editing error to me.

Tomorrow I'll check my DVD edition to see whether it has the same issue.

Edit: The DVD is the same - so maybe it isn't a fault, but it seems a strange bit of dialogue.

Just watched this and found it to be interesting.

The film does a good job at showing how ruthless the media can be.
