Default HDTV Decision!

Yo yo yo! I am in the market for a new HDTV. I have done some research and wanted some input with the type of HDTV and brand.

First, I have looked at various retail stores such as hhgregg and Best Buy at the demos. However, I am not getting much experience out of these items.
I've had an eye on the Panasonic 42ST30. They have good blacks but the overall picture looks more dull and grainy than other HDTVs/brands.

Then I've had an eye on the LEDs: Samsung 40D6000 and Sony 46EX620. The picture is very smooth and bright and good whites. They are thin and light too.
Now, I like to play my games on my PS3, watch sports, blu-ray movies and SD television with CC. I've heard SD is fuzzy and grainy on LEDs. Is that the truth?

This HDTV will be in the bedroom. 3D is not a demand. $1000 or cheaper.

Let me know what ya'll think and you can use my poll too.

I love the panny so for me it's a nobrainer. Not really a big difference between a 42 and 46,but don't know anything about the others.Go and view them in real life if thats possible. Can't really go wrong with the panasonic IMO.

Yup, agreed. Even if the op isn't going to use 3D, 3DTV's have a superb 2D picture (even better than actual 2DTV's from what I've heard).

What about the 60, 120 and 600Hz. How does that help? Why is the plasma so high and the LEDs only go to about 120Hz?

Yo Bra, go for the Sony! The LED is so much better. The blacks are just as good when using bluray. The whites are more pure. It's thin and lightweight. Less hassle if you gotta move it.

That Panasonic is chunky weight-wise (51 pounds!). Bezel is thick and huge. Plain boring design. Picture looks so dull, lifeless. Plus all there fluctuating brightness problem its had this year.

LED is going to take over Plasma in everything. Get the Sony!

Thumbs up Plasma

Yep, LCDs are still trying to catch up with plasma. LEDs, by the way, ARE LCDs. The LED nomenclature only shows that the LCD TVs use LEDs as a backlight. They still have all of the shortcomings of any other LCD. Go with the Panasonic plasma. You'll not regret it.
