Default Samsung D7000 Series

Just bought a Samsung PN51D7000 Plasma 3DTV. Really excited. If I told you what I had "Best Buy" price match it for, no doubt I would hear quite a bit of from the majority of you.

Any way, I'm wondering if any of you folks have a D7000 series Samsung and if you've played around with it enough to know how you feel about it. CNET.com has ranked it as #3 plasma "all-time" behind Sony, and Kuro (no surprise there).

The one minor complaint I've heard about the D7000 series is that it gets somewhat "hitchy" handling 24p sources at 96Hz, unless you turn "CinemaSmooth" on, then you sacrifice a little bit of black level performance. No biggy to me at least.

Any comments/opinions on the new line of Samsung plasmas?

that issue also affects the Samsung PND8000 line as well. With that said, the Samsung PND7000 & 8000 are good lines but I wouldn't put them ahead of the Panasonic VT30 though.

I've had this set since late April. It is indeed an awesome set but I happen to have the 64" model and if I've read correctly, the larger the screen size the better the black levels. As for the Panasonic VT30, I wouldn't doubt it if they have rising blacks again so in the end Samsung D7000/8000 will reign supreme.

I love all the settings I can mess with on this tv even though I leave about 50% or more of them off because they just add fake-ness to the picture.

Enjoy your new tv!

Nah, the Panny is one good set, although I do have to respect the opinion of the pros over at CNET. While they rated the VT30 the top of the line 2011 model, they ranked the Samsung D7000/8000 sets just below, which for the price I got the D7000 for... I'll deal with it. LOL!

I'm guessing you have a Panny?

I've heard that the plethora of settings is what makes this Plasma so "top of the line". Can't wait to get my hands on it. Unfortunately I will not be receiving the 3D glasses with the set, so I won't be able to explore any 3D content like I had hoped. But that's for another time I guess. I don't have a way of working around the fact that I don't own a HDMI 1.4 compatible receiver. I'm not going to buy a new one, and the PS3 only has one out.

I picked up the 59" D7000 as a price match at BestBuy with a sale at Fry's. Got it for right around $1700 which seemed liked a great deal. Have had it now for a month and am pleased with it. My previous tv was a Sony LCD from 2007ish. The Samsung has much better blacks. I wouldnt say its the perfect tv though.

I think computer's look much better on lcd (even older ones) than plasma. It does put off a decent amount of heat, and it does have a little noise to it if the room is quiet. I am surprised in this day and age that the perfect tv is not more common place. One that is bug free, doesnt make noises, doesnt get too hot and more importantly gets shipped with perfect picture settings that don't need adjusting.

I tried several picture setting sdjustments on avsforum, and other review sites. I ended up with something I happy with on my own, I felt that most other folks settings looked a little dark on my tv and I liked a more filmlike look with black levels not so dark as to eliminate detail.

Yes! I found out that after a little warm up time (about 150 or so hours of use) and a proper calibration, this set has a more beautiful, natural color tone and incredible picture than ANY of the models I tested. Then again, the ones I tested may not have been well calibrated. But it is glorious. Watching the ALDS matchup between the Tigers and Yanks right now, and loving it!

The Samsungs definitely benefit from calibration, and their colors are great.

would the 51 inch set be suitable for a 10x12 foot room?(thinking about getting a bigger size but different series pn59d550...) but im afriad that would be too big as viewing distance factors in.

looking everywhere for info on the pn51d7000, besides excellent picture quality, owners complain about peeling, brightness pops(brightness fluctuations?), buzzing, sets getting too hot.

is it worth all the fuss?

I just ordered the 59d8000, and I only sit 6.56 foot (2 metres) away from my screen, that distance is supposed to be fine for watching a 59" tv. What distance do you sit from your tv?

Based on everything I've read about viewing distances on this site, you would benefit more from 1080p buying a 59" over a 51" at that distance.

Thanks. Both the Samsung d7000 and d8000 series plasmas are great tv's, the top Panny plasma model only just beat them. I also bought an Oppo bdp-93 blu-ray player to go with it which I received in mail earlier in the week, it's a great blu-ray player. I couldn't be happier with my new purchases.

I sit 8' from 64". From there you get a pretty immersive feel. If you want more immersive then sit closer. With HD content it'll still look great a closer distance.
