There are Japanese Blu-ray titles out, but I don't think there are Chinese titles out on Blu-ray right now (accept Kung Fu Hustle).

Be patient young grasshopper...they will come.

Well since the Japanese market is almost completely dominated by Blu-Ray players I would imagine that when they make it to any HD format it will be Blu-Ray.

Dish Network has a HD Kung Fu channel so there are some old movies that have been cleaned up a little and look pretty good. They had 'The Big Boss' on a while back and it looked pretty good and they seem to play 'Enter the Dragon' every other day and it looks nice too.

Figured I would bump this up instead of starting a new thread...

Is Curse of the Golden Flower still slated for March 27th like I've seen on a few sites? I was disappointed to see Mr. & Mrs. Smith pulled from this week but I was planning to pick it up later anyways.

But I haven't seen this one yet and am very interested in it!

Last time I saw something on Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia it said May 29. Constant Vigilance! Extremely Volatile! ymmv. Not valid in Tanzania. Some restrictions apply. Sometimes during transport some disc may become loose. etc

Warriors Of Heaven and Earth is coming out this month on BD. Nice cinematography, interesting characters, one gorgeous leading lady, and cool fight sequences (more traditional swordfighting though, not wire-fu) make it a really good movie - though the ending may or may not be to one's liking.

I can't wait until Blu-ray is popular enough to see other titles like Hero, Crouching Tiger, The Emperor and The Assasin, Shinobi: Heart Under Blade, Seven Swords etc. get BD versions.

I mentioned this in the "UNANNOUNCED movies you want to see on BLU-RAY" thread, which is where this conversation should probably be.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=6252

but I'll mention it here also: Disney via Miramax owns the rights to the first Infernal affairs flick while the Weinsteins, camped firmly in HD-DVD for now, have the U.S. rights for the second two. So they're split up between opposing formats, at least in the U.S. Let's hope the universe shines on us and a region free trilogy release with nice subs arises from elsewhere.

I would love to see Battle Royal and all of the Kurosawa movies released. Also the Ring trilogy and Wild Zero , along with a ton of other asian flicks.

Write Criterion and request that they start releasing in BD. I don't know how they'll hold up or how much work they might need for HD, but I'd love to see some Kurosawa too - Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Hidden Fortress, Samurai Trilogy, and many others that aren't from Kurosawa. Maybe they'll do something in Japan sooner.

I just got the gorgeous remastered edition of Seven Samurai from Criterion (the one that came out late last year) and judging from that I'd say it'd look great on a proper BD50 release. I'm still thinking about getting the Yojimbo/Sanjuro set as well - I'm thinking it'll be some time before Criterion hops onto the Blu-ray bandwagon.

Yeah, but it'll be great if they did. Deep Discount was, or is, having a 40% off sale on Criterion movies. I would normally go crazy on that but due to Blu-Ray, I really don't feel like buying anymore "regular" DVD's.
