Default Open dialog with Scanavo regarding Stickerbooks (PLEASE READ!)

So, as the topic says.
Im having an dialog with one of my contacts at Scanavo regarding Stickerbooks, and ive been asked for ideas about this concept.
I will qoute some of our conversation and im going to compile a email to them again in a week or two, so please, this is the time to make your voice heard.
All SERIOUS ideas and thoughts about this will be taking into this email, so if youre just about to troll, dont post

Quote:
It's extremely expensive to print less than our minimum order quantity (8.000 pcs for our metal print) and with the label concept we can still offer the smaller territories which aren't able to meet the standard MOQ a special packaging in SteelBook(tm).
Quote:
Label do have some other possibilities and advantages than what you have when printing on metal, such as Holo mirror and other nice (paper) materials.
Below is our press release for the label concept which also describes the concept in details.
http://www.steelbook.com/cgi-files/e...ease_Label.pdf

So to sum up - The label concept is mostly offered for the clients that can't meet our standard min order quantity. The feedback from the studios and publishers have so far been positive.
Anyway - If you have any ideas on how to promote this concept differently so our end consumers won't get confused and will understand the differences, I am all ears.

It's good that you're having a dialogue, but there really isn't much that can happen, IMO.

SteelBook Label (aka Stickerbook), for Scanavo, is a cost-effective alternative to their metal print standard product.

That inherently means that it is cheaper and of lower quality to the standard product.

While I would endorse the use of 'special materials' such as holographic effects, that also drives the cost up, which is counter-productive to the entire reason why a studio would consider SteelBook Label in the first place.

For example, I think a holographic cover Stickerbook is much better than a standard Stickerbook, but not as good as the standard SteelBook. I would be more critical about a purchase of a SteelBook Label irregardless of what's stuck on the covers. The fact is, if I'm getting a SteelBook Label, I might as well design my own which I'm guaranteed to like.

Ultimately, the sales of SteelBook Label will determine whether or not it is a successful product or not. As it stands now, I have no interest in SteelBook Labels -- unless they come up with a 3D Star Wars version or something like that.

I feel that this is probably the beginning of the downfall of Steelbooks in the UK

I'm not real particular, but I won't buy a stickerbook or a metal-pak.

Yeah, I had a problem with the "LOTR" stickerbook. It was nice with the holographic backing and patterns and stuff. When I tried to get the goo off that held the information card in place, it ripped the entire front cover off. So now I got a blank "LOTR" steelbook.

Given the choice, I'd prefer the printed metal. Even if that means paying a little more, and having less of a selection; it definitely lasts longer, and makes the product feel more special.

But if blank steelbooks are made more widely available, I wouldn't mind making my own stickerbooks.

All it needs is for them to describe it as a "StickerBook" as opposed to a "SteelBook".

With the level of technology available in manufacturing today your not expecting us to accept your unable to produce runs of less than 8000 cost effectively being a production engineer I know how the system works.

The stickerbooks would have been better accepted if they were promoted as such eg.. source Code from play we had to wait till it arrived for confirmation it was a sticker, add to that the shocking quality again this was from the supplier I would love to see a statement from the quality department justifying the the very poor quality of Source Code very few of the Stickers were evenly placed and most had two production marks on the front. I have never bothered about the cost of any Steelbook but if this is the way the product is going I will be no longer collecting and having spoke to a few other collectors they are all of the same opinion.

Pud made a good statement. I didn't buy Source Code, because I wasn't interested in the film, but if I did and it arrived as a StickerBook, I would of been . They are horrible things, I personally would like to see them scrapped, but thats not going to happen. I cannot believe that they are receiving positive feedback from the studios and publishers, what kind of people do they ask regarding this or do they just make it up . Perhaps its just a minority of collectors, most on this forum who are against it .

Agreed with the above, just call it a StickerBook. It's worse to lead people into thinking its one or the other, when it could easily be confirmed way in advance.

I hope it's not the end of printed steels in the UK, I do prefer them, but at the end of the day, Im happy with my Source Code one.

To all the stickerbook haters out there. In my opinion, these will be some of the most collectible metal packaging out there in the future. They are often produced in much lesser quantities than SB's or IP's, therefore much rarer. At present, they are not very popular amongst collectors, but thats good. If every has one, than no one wants one. This kinda reminds me of an episode of "Pawnstars" I saw recently. A lady brought in a female GI Joe doll, which was a catastrophic failure in terms of sales. Boys didn't want to play with dolls, nevermind a female doll. Girls? They wanted nothing to do with anything related to GI Joe. Fast forward to today, that same doll that no one wanted back in the day, goes for $2500+ in auctions, if it came with the box. let this be a lesson. Metal packs, I just can't defend. I have 2, and both severely suck in terms of the packaging and design.

Im with alot of people here. If this are stickers they should write stickers in the description of the products.

If you ask me the stickerbooks looks like bootlegs that someone have made in the basement late at night and I know that im not the only one thinking this.

Agree they need to make sure the consumer is aware prior to release whether it is Sticker or Steel Print.

The only stickerbook I purchased was the Best Buy LOTR these were some of the issues I saw.

Stickers placed crooked and not centered in the space, stickers with air bubbles in them, stickers with white frayed edges, spine sticker did not cover the entire spine so had unfinished steel showing on the spine.

Stickers need to be on perfect, spine needs painted to match the rest of the Steelbook. The stickers need to have some kind of anti-pirating hologram on them so it's easier to determine a fake. It's much easier to make fake stickers and place them on blank or cheaper Stickerbooks than it is to fake the steel printing.

If they can make that happen fine, if not either don't do them or don't put a premium on them just give them away with purchase of the Amaray copy.

I don't see them changing the name of their products, so as long as it's correctly labeled as "Labeled Steelbooks" I don't have any problems as long as we know.

I personally dont like stickerbooks just looks so cheap compared to printed steels and half the time they arent even stuck on straight i have kept my source code though more for the film and it does seem to be fairly rare, also i think we should be heard on this because at the end of the day we are the consumer that buys the steelbooks without us there wouldent be a steelbook let alone stickerbook i just hope the UK isnt going to start suffering a heap of these stickerbooks.

It definitely cheapens the look, that is for sure.

Who cares about collectability? Many of us here only care about the quality of the product we are purchasing and usually paying a significant premium for.

Stickerbooks are terrible; I sometimes prefer amarays over them.

I believe stickerbooks are more likely to be tied in with "Exclusive" deals.

So just get them to stop making exclusive deals if they can't match the 8000 piece quantity minimum. Surely thats the answer to this puzzle.

Getting the stores to label the product appropriately is a big factor as well. A collector who has 80 steelbooks will expect steelbooks of the future to meet the standard of the ones he already has. Stickerbooks represent a lesser standard throughout the whole of this forum so thats saying something.

I think I'm not alone in saying that Scanavo should make sure the picture illustrations on websites show the bare steelbook so we can see if the item has logos printed on them. For me personally, I only want to see the movies artwork on the front. Nothing more, nothing less. "PAUL" is a great example of how a steelbook should be in its naked form. Steelbook collectors do not need advertising like amaray cases need to be. We are not the general public, we are steelbook collectors. Well most of us are.

Less so in the UK than the rarer ones in other countries.

The SB market seems to be expanding in the UK with more SB releases, more access to them and more exposure for them - whether it's collecters or people trying to make money out of them.

The problem IMHO is the limited releases, there is much more temptation by the distributors (remember it's them NOT the retailer who makes the decision) to cut corners and use a cheaper option especially now that it's being promoted by Scanavo (steelbook.com).

Thanks to Navelludd who posted the link to that on here, cheers

Adele Blanc-Sec wasnt exclusive and that was the UK's 2nd stickerbook
