Default Animated Movies (non-CGI) on Blu-ray... Is it worth it?

Is it really worth buying animated movies on Blu-Ray?? I don't mean the CGI or computer animated movies like Toy Story and Kung-Fu Panda... The texture in the detail for those will definitely shine through at true 1080p.

I mean the old Disney Classics like Aladdin and Fantasia... Or, for a different set of taste... Transformers, Robotech or Anime???

I think these movie look FANTASTIC on DVD with full 1080p upconversion. Has anybody actually done a direct comparison to see if it's worth the premium to see "black lines filled with color" on Blu-Ray???

For the Disney stuff, like Sleeping Beauty, the drawings seem to pop off the screen and almost look 3D on blu-ray, so I'd say yes it's worth it.

Definitely, the great detail in Disney's backdrops in their older films is amazing.

Pinocchio is my favorite...but I think Sleeping Beauty has some of the best backdrops.

Blu-Ray releases of non-cgi movies are absolutely fantastic, especially the Disney titles.

With the Disney titles, you can see some of the brush strokes, the colours and everything pop right out of your screen. I remember watching Sleeping Beauty for the first time, which I have seen countless times on DVD, VHS, LaserDisc, but watching it on Blu-ray was like watching it for the very first time... breathtaking.

The same can be said for other, non-Disney films like The Simpsons Movie and Anime releases. It's so much more colourful, outlines are perfect and (usually) jaggie free.

I didn't think so until I bought my first one; Pinocchio. I put both the BD and DVD in my computer and had both on the screen at the same time. WOW! There is a difference.

You remind me of my friend, like you he wasn't to sure that animation on Blu-ray was worth the upgrade (except the CGI stuff).

I showed him my Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray from Disney and all he did was this, no joke

He is convince now. All of it also depend if you are a addict animation fan or just casual. The prices can be high on some of these animation movies but if you are a big fan, in my view it's well worth it. My suggestion, if you can, try to rent a few and see them for yourself, that should help you decide if it's worth making the upgrade for your colelction.

I fell in love with animation on blu. The funny thing I owned almost no animated titles on dvd. Now the majority of my collection is animated.

Traditional animation, (done right of course) looks just as good, if not better, than CGI on Blu-ray.

Yes, animated films look great on blu! I own a bunch of them. The animated Disney films look fantastic, also anime films look great too. I would recommend renting an animated blu-ray at redbox or get one from netflix and check it out for yourself.
