Question How did you first get into Blu?

I was thinking about this earlier, and I wanted to see how blu ray first got viewed at home. I want to know how well the PS3 has been able to do this, as I've followed the PS3 for quite some time.

1.) Bought a really expensive stand alone player - (early, early adopter)

2.) Bought a sub $500 stand alone player

3.) Bought a PS3 - (with intent to game first)

4.) Bought a PS3 - (with intent to watch blus first)

I bought a PS3 with the intent to game. Although one of the reasons I wanted the PS3 so badly was to play Blu-Ray movies. My PS3 is mainly gaming though.

I got the PS3, as I felt the need to round out my gaming platforms, so now I have all three. Had I been able to buy a wii first, I doubt I would have any others as it is by far the best *gaming* platform out there right now (notice how I don't mention graphics, cause that's not what nintendo is interested in).

But I have the PS3, and since I had started buying a lot of DVDs recently I decided I might as well buy blus, that way I should soon get to a point where I can buy no more than 5 a week cause that's all that's being released --my wallet dreams for this but we'll see

Well, I got into Blu ray by pure incident -I had an HD tv - but had no real optinion on either blu ray or hd dvd, although i viewed myself as a bd man, it was purely based on my dislike of microsoft..
I spontaniously went out an bought a ps3 on the release date, mainly just to make 2 good friends of mine jealous, cause they both wanted it, but couldnt afford it
Things kinda just evolved from there

I was about to give in and buy an HD-DVD player because I had really wanted to upgrade to an HD formate, and as a student Blu-Ray was simply too much money. However the day I went to best buy to buy it, the Sony BDP-S300 was down to $299. I had wanted Blu much more anyways, and because it was only a matter for about $50 I just went for the Sony.

You'll need to add another option HTPC. I bought this model in October 2006 which was my first BD player.

Another vote for HTPC

I got an LG GBW H10N blu-ray drive. (It can't record BD DL, but it's good!)

I think the title of this Thread should have been what was you're first Blu-ray Player? But anyways, I Bought a PS3 with the intent to watch Blu-ray movies, being able to play games is a bonus for me.

I'm a huge wuss and wanted my movies in HD. BACK THEN, The PS3 was an easy choice because even if Blu didn't win out, I'd have a sweet gaming console. Pulling the trigger was the toughest part. Now I can't imagine watching a movie in SD

I waited for the BDP-S1 and updated the firmware as it became available.

I picked up my PS3 in the Spring of 07. I knew what Blu-ray was and considered it a huge thing I could expand on but I bought it as a gaming system.

When i first got my PS3 I had a SDTV, and Blu-ray has encouraged me to buy a small HDTV and small sound system.

Bought a 60GB PS3 at launch just because I've been a devout Playstationite since the beginning. I was interested in Blu ever since hearing about the technology but didn't see the need to adopt early since I was getting a PS3 no matter what.

My appreciation for the PS3 increases everyday, just as I'm sure it does for a lot of you here!

I bought a PS3 with an intent to game AND watch movies... but with the caveat that I'd check out the free copy of Casino Royale first AND get into buying movies slowly as I watched the progress of the format war.
Slowly started buying more and more movies over the year.
And yes, I was always interested in Blu since the early days when I read about it's superior technical specs and realised that any interactivity would match the competition within a matter of a year or two.
